While driving to the store one evening, the headlights suddenly flickered and went out. I turned the light switch off and on then they went back on. Ever since this the lights(driver side) go off and usually come back on after turning the light switch on and off. No resolution to this after contacting Toyota since I appear to not be under warranty.

While driving the headlights will shut off. Sometimes the drivers side would go out. Sometimes the passenger side would go out. Sometimes both headlights will go out. If you turn off the headlights and turn them back on they will work for various amounts of time. Dealer mechanic states this is an extremly common occurance with this vehicle. Repair cost was quoted at approx $600 to replace the headlights and that possibly this could not fix the problem and could need further repairs but this is where they start with this known issue.

Headlight on driver side intermittently goes on and off (mostly stays off) and has been doing this for 60,000+ miles (I have 127,000 miles on it now). I got quoted a huge amount to replace the light - $100+ for the light and one hour of labor. Ridiculous! I see that many more have had this same problem and I just think Toyota should do something regarding this obvious defect. So, decided to do this official complaint. I should have done this a long time ago! it is very dangerous driving around with one headlight but who is to say the problem would fix itself even if I get the light replaced. Something is terribly wrong!

Hid light randomly go out. Sometimes the driver side, sometimes the passenger side...sometimes both. They usually come back on by turning them off and back on at the switch. Dealer quoted $700 per light to fix. Ridiculous for early failure of a "upgraded" light option that we had to pay extra for when we purchased the car.

I have brought this vehicle to the Toyota dealer four times in this past year for intermittently working headlights. One or the other front headlight turn off without warning. When the headlights are (both) turned off then on, they usually, but not always, both come back on. The dealer is clueless even when problem is demonstrated to the head of the service department. Based on a review of internet chat groups, this seems to be a well known and documented problem, including a class action law suit filed earlier this year (collado et al V. Toyota motor sales).

2007 Prius headlight failure - passenger side headlight goes out frequently. By turning lights off and back on it stays on for a while. I can't reproduce the problem when I want to. Looking at consumer complaints it seems to be a wide spread problem and very expensive to replace bulb which doesn't help the problem. Major safety issue at least that Toyota is just brushing aside. I am not a satisfied Toyota customer by all means.
