Why are the 2010 not part of the recall? The older models with same part are covered.

Prius Hybrid 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I was driving on the main highway with my daughter and suddenly all the brake lights came on. The brakes started to skid... I realized that brakes had failed. Felt like it was one of those end moments of life. All those who have a Toyota Prius or thinking of buying, please be extra skeptical. Who should I complain to about this incidence? I am sure there are others who may have had a similar experience with this car. Thanks.

4/29/16 - driving on the freeway friday evening, the plastic protective bottom came loose. i pulled off what i could, drove to the next exit where a kind gentlemen helped remove the remaining bolt on the front right side. drove home, all seemed well.

5/15/16 - again driving on the freeway, the ABS and Traction sensor dash lights came on, both steering and brake control became sloppy, brakes weak.

5/16/16 - monday morning got in the car, same dash icons on. drove a few yards to park, lights went off, control ok. drove it around a bit, no more indicators coming on, control ok. so problem intermittent.

5/17/16 - drove to the dealer to investigate ABS, traction icons. had to leave car.

5/18/16 - service tells me the ABS, traction icons on because the plastic protective bottom missing from the right front wheel well damaged some wiring that goes all around the car and controls the motor. cost: $7400. says my car is totaled (due to high mileage) and i should put a claim in to my insurance. he said if insurance gives me $7000, i can buy back salvage title for $3000, use the $4000 toward repair. he said he wouldn't repair it for me though. he says i should total it, take the $7K and put it toward buying another car!!!!!!!!!!!

before i took my car into the dealer for the ABS/traction icon issues, i did some research and found that previously there had been ABS issues with my car, as in recall. i mentioned this when i first took the car in, which was tuesday evening before they closed. i tried calling around 2pm the next day for a status update, only to have service finally return my call at 4:30pm saying it was totaled. he thinks the icons came on right after the protective plastic came off, which isn't the case. there were 15 days in between events. i do not think the first caused the second. my instincts tell me this is a recall issue. i have had past issues with this dealership. i only took it there because they are so close to my house and i did not want to drive the car very far.

ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED
