My new Toyota Prius Hybrid had a very strong chemical smell from the moment it got delivered - we are 6 months further and the smell is still not gone. This resulted in headache, respiratory diseases and an allergic reaction for me. After searching the Internet I found that these symptoms are known and due to the "outgassing" of the chemical materials used in plastics, adhesives, cleaning products, plasticizers, paint, sealers, lubricating compounds, etc... used for the car interior.
This is in contradiction with an article I found where one of Toyota’s color and trim managers, Janis Ambrose Shard, stated that Toyota has moved to water-based glues and soy-based foam. This does not rime with my experience so makes me wonder if that is really the case for the Prius.
