ok, FIRST OFF, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON , THIS FREAKS US OUT, WE PULL OVER CHECK OUT UNDER HOOD , BUT CANT FIND OUT WHY LIGHT IS ON , SO WE TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, AFTER, VERY MUCH PAIN IN THE ASS QUESTIONS ,PHONE CALLS ,INTERNET SEARCHES,ETC, . AND BY THE WAY, WE STARTED HEARING A LITTLE DIFFERENCE IN THE ENGINE, SO WE FIND OUT THERE IS [SOMEWHAT,]OF RECALL FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT. SO OFF TO THE TOYOTA DEALER, THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIX THE PROBLEM, WHICH AFTERWARD I FIND OUT,ANY PARTS STORE CAN STOP THE LIGHT PROBLEM,BUT DOES NOT DO A THING FOR THE REAL PROBLEM OF OIL SLUDGE, WHICH BY THE WAY WILL CAUSE YOUR MOTOR TO BLOW UP,. SO ANYWAY MY WIFE IS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HEARS A CLANKING BANGING AWFUL NOISE SEES THE TACK JUMP FROM AROUND 2500RPMS TO OVER 5000RPMS THEN DOWN TO 0 THATS ZERO RPMS''''ENGINE BLOWS UP AT AROUND 60 MILES PER HOUR, ENDANGERING HER AND OTHERS WHILE SHE TRIES TO MOVE OFF THE ROAD WITH NO POWER TO ENGINE,STEERING,BRAKES ETC. SO NOW WE ARE HAVING TO REPLACE ENGINE AND POSSIBLY TRANSMISSION, SO NOW TOYOTA HAS NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM OF INADEQUATE OIL PORTS IN THESE ENGINES, MY MECHANIC SAYS THE PROBLEM IS LACK OF OIL CAUSED BY NO OIL GETTING TO WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE. HE HAS SAVED THE OIL AND PARTS WHICH I WILL PROVIDE PHOTOS OF,OUR EXPERIENCES SO FAR NOT INCLUDING ANGUISH ,WASTED TIME, TRYING TO FIND HELP, ETC,ARE ABOUT 6000$$$$ , PISSED OFF YOU BET I AM,. I DID CONTACT TOYOTA VIA INTERNET ON THEIR WEBSITE ,LODGED A COMPLAINT , BUT THEY WORD THINGS TO OBVIOUSLY AVOID ANY WRONG ON THEIR PART,SO YOU REALLY CANT COMPLAIN TO ANYONE WHO REALLY LISTENS,.ANY WAY,WE SHOULD ALL BE TALKING TO LEGAL COUNSEL OR EVEN THE TV REPORTERS TO STIR UP SOME REAL RESPONSE TO OUR DILEMMAS. I WILL BE DOING MY PART, SO THE MORE NOISE WE MAKE THE BETTER, I HOPE!!!

I just had my Rav4 checked out for trip to St. Louis from Georgia. I made it to St. Louis okay. The next day I drove to Illinois (about 30 miles.) When I started back to St. Louis the check engine light came on. I pulled over to try to figure out what might be wrong, I was out in the middle of no mans land. I got back in the car, turned the key, and the light went out. I drove a little further and the light still didn't come back on. When I was almost to St. Louis (actually at the my exit) the light comes back on. When I stopped at the stop, I hear this noise... like a machine shutting down and the car stopped right there. Steam comes from under the hood and that's it.
I took really good car of my car. I took it to my local Toyota dealer for regular service. In fact, I still had 50,000 miles to go before a tuneup. I am financial unable to repair my car so it has been parked at a friends place for a year and a half.
