RAV4 ES 2.4L

I am very frustrated with this vehicle at this point! Even more so w/ the Dealer...but that's another issue! Basically, this year, I spent $400 on the 90k checkup. The dealer said everything looked good. A couple months later, I was having issues. I asked them to check the clutch. They told me nothing was wrong. A couple weeks later, I went back, insisting something was wrong. I asked them to check the clutch. They said nothing was wrong with the clutch. But they said the catalytic converter needed to be changed...that was $600. Then a week later, I go back cuz I'm still having issues! NOW they said the clutch is sooo bad that it needed to be replaced immediately and since it's so bad, it will need a new fly wheel also! Of course, they wanted $1700 to fix it! When I went to them for months...they acted like I was crazy!

Anyway, I had the clutch fixed...somewhere else, for $1000. So, my total for the year (by June) for the car was $2000. Then a few months later, a car pulls out in front of me on a major road (speed limit 60). It happened to be at a time when the light was changing also. So I had to rapidly hit my brakes. I was in 5th gear. when I went to take it out of gear...it was stuck! I was stuck! The light turned green...cars were honking...I'm still stuck in 5th gear. I had to turn the car off to get it out of gear!! I thought it was a fluke. Then a couple weeks later, while in 5th gear...the stick was shaking violently while in gear. I took it out of 5th and put it back in...then it was stable. But that began to happen more often. And then while my husband was driving the car...it got stuck in 5th again when he had to come to an abrupt stop. He had to turn off the car to get it out of gear!

So I took the car back to the guy that did the clutch work. He said it's a transmission issue, not a clutch issue. Is he right? Or avoiding an issue on his work? I lost my job last month...and am reluctant to spend a LOT OF MONEY to replace the transmission, especially after already putting $2k into it this year!

Has anyone else had this many issues w/ their Rav4??? It's not that old, but it has over 100k. But all my cars have been manual and I have not had this issue, except for once...but the car had 175k miles.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
