At 94K miles my car started burning alot of oil, and I am told by Toyota that this is normal?? every 1200 miles I am adding at least 1 1/4 qt. This is not normal and they know there is an engine issue- but refuse to take responsibility for it!

In Dec 2014 my car exhaust was louder than usual, the repair shop noted that the front center catalytic converter was rusted and perforated and replace it at at cost of $1844.11. In Jan 2017 Toyota issued special service campaign G0Y regarding this exact issue, claiming it will either fix rusted systems or reimburse those whose systems were already rusted and replaced. I submitted my request for reimbursement, responded for a request for more paperwork, and was subsequently denied without explanation. Today when I called for more info, I was told that the decision cannot be appealed (nfi). She finally said that the repair shop note did not mention rust. When I pointed out it said holes, she was unmoved and said their decision is final. This is dishonest and ripping off customers. I would appreciate your assistance in this matter. I believe I fully meet the requirements as spelled out in their service campaign notice. I can provide additional paperwork as needed

Excessive oil consumption relating to Toyota's warranty enhancement notification - ZE7. I knew my engine consumed oil chronically since at least 75,000 miles so was not surprised when this warranty enhancement came in the mail. However, when I brought it into the dealership to get tested, they said it passed the test (this was in April 2015 at about 135,000 miles). I was frustrated and shocked. I thought I was stuck with no other options. Recently, when adding oil I noticed I went through 2-2.5 quarts in a week. That's when I insisted on another oil consumption test. It failed this time, but according to Toyota, it was too late for them to cover as I was over the term of 150,000 miles (case #1803133073). I asked for other alternatives since I believed the original test to be flawed (allowing for 1-1.5 quarts of oil consumption when the owner's manual recommends oil changes at 5,000 miles. Since the car only holds just over 4.5 quarts of oil, no oil would be left at over 4,000 miles). At the rate of consumption, I worry about excessive engine heat leading to fires and obviously excessive wear on the engine. This should not have been a 'warranty enhancement' and instead a recall as the excessive oil consumption in the 2az-fe Toyota engine is well documented as a design flaw or engineering error with the piston rings not being large enough to drain oil or not having enough holes, trapping the oil and causing oil burning. Toyota should be held accountable for their poor engine design and any safety issues associated with it. At a minimum the warranty enhancement should be extended for the life of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4. While driving 45 mph or while the vehicle was stopped, the oil warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was advised that an oil leak was detected. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was repaired per an unknown recall. No further assistance was offered. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The recall details were not provided. The failure mileage was 125,332.

Our 2007 Rav4 is consuming/burning oil at an extreme rate. There is no oil leaking from the vehicle. We are adding a quart every 2-3 weeks. We had the dealership perform their "test" (three times) when the recall came out over a year ago. At that time we were told our vehicle did not meet the criteria to be covered under the recall. (records will show that prior to the recall even coming out, we had taken it in for excessive oil consumption...so when the recall came out we hoped it would take care of the problem.) we were shocked when we were told it didn't "qualify". we have just continued adding oil...then in August of 2017 we spent nearly $2,800 to have repairs done that we hoped would take care of the problem. To our surprise, the oil has been depleting at an even faster rate than before! so we took it back in to the dealership who performed the oil consumption test done under the prior recall, and were told it failed miserably then! we understand the recall period had expired, but the vehicle still had under 200,000 miles on it when it failed. How does a vehicle get recalled only for a certain window of time, when we were told it doesn't meet the criteria - and after that window is "closed" the vehicle fails the test? we are appealing Toyota's decision not to cover this problem under the recall. We have been loyal Toyota customers for decades and request your consideration in this matter.

Driving on expressway the low oil light came on dozens of times while braking.. Toyota Rav4 2007 with only 69K miles started to consume 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles... dealer did an oil consumption test - which proved that engine is burning oil. Since car is more then 10 years, even though the mileage is very low - Toyota refuses to cover repair costs. Dealer's quote for repair was $4,300.

Takata recall-I just purchased this used vehicle a couple of months ago. It started using oil right away. The Toyota dealership says it's a problem they're well aware of, and, if I had brought it in before August, before I had purchased it or ever even seen it, it would have been covered, but now they want $5000 to rebuild the engine!

Excessive oil consumption - uses 1 quart of oil every 1,500 miles or less. We have to constantly check the oil level and my wife is now afraid to drive the vehicle fearing that the engine will seize up if we have failed to check the oil level. Note: I've had to "dummy" a date because this is a continuous problem and not just one date.

Massive consumption of oil. My 2007 Toyota Rav4 consumes approximately a quart of oil in 500 miles. This is very excessive and means that I have to fill the oil 10 times before the "5000 mile" oil change. Toyota did issue a tsb and ran the car through a test and deemed the loss of oil acceptable which I find ludicrous. Acceptable is being down 1/4 a quart after 5000 miles. But if I waited til my oil change the engine would be destroyed. And the very least they need to issue a recall and fix the problem.

Excessive engine oil consumption. Did oil consumption test at Toyota and they said there's no problem but still oil runs dry after 3K miles. Took it to another non Toyota service center for second opinion and was told that I had two options: To replace the entire engine at a cost of $5K or to live with it and check oil level weekly and refill it yourself if oil level is low. Also recommended using 10W40 oil due to high mileage. I chose the latter and so far going good. Really not happy with Toyota dealers response as they were hesitant to help and kept telling me to change the entire engine that would cost me $$$ since my warranty expired.

Excessive oil consumption leading to the engine problem, nearly stalling on highway (my two young boys in the car), very dangerous. I was able to pull into a gas station - almost no oil in the engine. I change oil every 3K-4K miles. As I read up more on the issue, Toyota has a design flaw in its pistons, leasing to oil consumption (2006-08 Rav4) with the 2az-fe engine. Toyota performed the oil consumption test (2 step on 10/05/2017), my car failed (too much oil consumption), but Toyota will not fix, as my Rav4 pass the warranty date. Bought the Rav4 at Toyota of morristown, NJ in May 2007. Other Toyota models also use the same engine. They sold me (and many others too) the Rav4 even with the known design flaws. It will cost over $3.5K to rebuild the engine at Toyota. I never received any notifications, they only issued a fix in 2011 within Toyota dealerships. Models impacted: Camry 2007-11, Camry hybrid 2007-11, corolla & matrix 2009, Rav4 2006-08, Solara 2007-08, Scion xb 2008-09 and tc 2007-09

My car has failed inspection because of leaks in the mufflers. Living in a cold weather climate, the roads are salted constantly and my muffler should not have rusted and have holes in. The material is not sufficient enough for heavy salting. I believe the V6 engines have this recall but not 4 cylinder.
