Excessive oil consumption this is my second complaint on this issue because after finally finding a better dealer (towne Toyota, ledgewood NJ bad, Toyota of morristown good) I had the oil consumption test performed. I failed (duh, been adding extra oil between changes for two years with no leaks on the driveway). I was a month out of "extended coverage" for vehicles 10 years from date of first use. Friendly dealer said to call hq and plead my case. I did and after some friendly cust serv rep, was still told sol. I hope someone gets a class action going. I will be getting this repaired by my local mechanic and will never buy Toyota again. (even my brz sickens me a bit since Toyota had a hand in it).

Total engine failure at 115,000 miles due to excessive oil consumption. Burned through 4 quarts of oil in less than 3 weeks time. Need a new engine or engine rebuild. Will be $4,000 to fix. Toyota is aware of the issue and had issued enhanced warranties for vehicle N the past. We purchased the vehicle in 2015 after notifications had been sent. Issue often becomes apparent around 100,000 miles according to research. Calls with Toyota have been unsuccessful at any sort of recourse for this. Toyota customer service rep claims to receive multiple calls per week on this issue. Our engine failed on a major interstate. While traveling 60 miles per hour.

2007 Toyota Rav4, on sat August 26th we were driving from madison wi to milwaukee wi on I94. Just shortly before we reached johnson creek the car made a strange noise and then the noise went away. As we were driving past johnson creek the engine made a pop sound and I lost power and I coasted to a stop along the side of the freeway. I noticed smoke or steam coming from the engine compartment, I opened the hood and there was a fire in the engine compartment. I removed some items in the car and my wife called 911. By the time the johnson creek fire department arrived the rav 4 was completely engulfed in fire. The car was a complete loss

I receive letter by mail, about takada air bags, and thanks because dealers, never mention that part, and is unfair, special went buy a used car, and pay more money, ,well receive a few months later a recall for compsuption motor oil, need to be done, and tried 2 or 3 times, but the advisor and tech, are mero worry about fixed uncover warranty repairs, because transmission goes bad, tow 140 to dealer, and make all kind ot tricks to make me paid, finally they admit to fixed but charge me $618 for alignment the 4 tires, replace rear seal, the intake fuel sys and use the word, per customer request, customer authorized, but never comment oh if you don't follow the tech recommends, warranty is going to avoid, decline the repair, and get service history and found they did all the work for the car recalls to, and I'm the only owner, but buy the car in 2015 with 80,000 miles and a lot of false, irregularities, so want to know if this car is for the lemon law case my safety and my family travel to Mexico, ensenada, and I'm worry, car is unsafe to drive, my car don't want travel in the car, and is correct, but I'm scare to be involve in accident, car need to be check but by a dealer, a gov tech, oe a serious org. Excessive oil consumption began around 115K miles. About halfway through 3K mile oil change (1.5K miles in) oil light goes on, dip stick confirms almost no oil. For the next 1.5K miles need to add 2-3 quarts (I add 1 qt at a time to save $, always keep a quart in the car and larger amt in the garage). Dealer said it's out of warranty and there's nothing they can do. There is wide body of evidence on forum sites that this is a common problem (www.toyotaproblems.com/trends/excessive-oil-consumption/) and there's an technical service bulletin on the issue, but no recall.

This vehicle falls under the excessive oil consumption issue; the dealerships won't repair it under warranty, I need to add oil to it weekly, it has no value and can not be sold due to this and I'm worried that the engine will seize. Since I purchased this vehicle in Sept.2006 I have had to replace 6 ignition coils. #4 has been replaced twice as of yesterday March 28,2017. The problem first began in 2010. I believe this is a safety concern due to the fact that when this issue arises my cruise control disengages and any vehicle following behind will see no brake lights and may rear end the vehicle. The vehicle also becomes sluggish and will not respond like it should.

We have a 2007 Toyota rav 4 that has been experiencing excessive oil consumption problem for at least the past two years. We have brought it in the our mechanic on multiple occasions and also to the dealership. There was a recall notice last year and we had the required testing done twice in February and March of 2016 by the dealership and they claimed the car passed the test and was not defective. However the problem continues to happen. The we have an extended warranty on the car at the time of the testing which has only just expired in October 2016. This problem was identified prior to the expiration of our warranty but Toyota claimed there was no problem with the vehicle. We have always followed the manufacturers suggest maintenance schedule and have the service records in our possession. In the last year to 18 months to two years we would have to bring the car in more frequently than the mfg recommended service schedule, as it was not making more than 2000 miles before the check oil light would come on. Most recently as little as 1200 miles.

Car had been using excessive oil.while I was driving on interstate, cruise control failed, warning lights came on, started flashing and then car quickly lost all power. Barely got off the highway onto the right side of interstate. Very dangerous condition exists with these vehicles. I consider myself lucky.

Starting in 2014, I had to refill 1 qt of oil every ~1200-1500 miles despite meticulous maintenance. After receiving a "warranty enhancement notification" letter from Toyota motor sales U.S.a., Inc. Addressing excessive oil consumption, a first oil consumption test was initiated at a Toyota dealership in October 2015 and evaluated in December 2015. According to the dealership, the car passed this test; oil consumption would still be within engine specification. This was a surprise, given that the official maintenance schedule requires an oil change every 5000 miles, and that the permitted oil consumption in such an interval according to engine spec. Could lead to severe engine damage, or failure. A second oil consumption test was initiated in September 2016, and evaluated early December 2016 by the same Toyota dealership. This second test confirmed an excessive oil consumption, I.e. the test had failed. I was told that the engine would be repaired under the warranty enhancement free of charge. Soon after, I was informed that the enhanced warranty period of my vehicle had expired 10/31/2016; therefore, any cost for the engine repair would no longer be covered. Consequently, the engine repair was cancelled. The dealership argued that although the oil consumption test was initiated during the warranty period, the confirmation of the condition took place after warranty expiration. The oil consumption test requires me to drive 1100-1300 miles before I can bring the car back to the dealership for evaluation. The dealership responded that it would have been my duty to drive the required mileage before the end of the extended warranty coverage. I checked the detailed conditions of the warranty enhancement and found no written statement mentioning that the test has to be evaluated before the warranty expires; it is only stated the test has to be initiated during warranty.

Excessive oil consumption. Notices my vehicle used 1/2 a quart of oil in 480 mile. Took it in for excessive oil consumption test. Dealer indicated I may have to do $170-$1200 in gasket replacement to qualify for warranty repairs. First I could not see what they were talking about, I.e. not leaks visible/apparent to me. Also this did not make sense especially since the repairs they indicated I may need to do, will have to be redone during the warranty repairs. When asked why, they said they had to require them to be done because Toyota hq would stick them with the warranty repair bill if they disagreed with them as to whether to authorize the warranty repairs. Toyota has admitted they have a design flaw in this engine in this vehicle. Why won't they fix it without such a hassle. This needs to be made a formal recall so they are forced to stop taking advantage of their customers.

Oil consumption issue - dealer conducted a test and passed the vehicle despite it burning a quart of oil at 1100 miles - which points it a 0.009 quarts per mile - this means and 5000 miles (the recommended mileage between oil changes) the car has burned through 4.54 quarts when it only holds 4.5 quarts - it consumes all the oil between oil changes. How can this car pass the test?
