My girlfriend and I were driving to Fredericksburg around midnight, which is about an hour from where we live. We were driving down I-95 and all of a sudden all of my warning lights came on. Then I heard a loud screeching noise coming from the engine, and then my car stalled and died. Luckily, I was able to get my car to the right shoulder. I tried restarting it but nothing happened. I thought maybe it was my battery dying so I'll just get it towed and replace it in the morning.
I got my car towed to the closest repair shop, and my girlfriend and I spent the night in a hotel. Tim from the repair shop called me the next morning and says it might be the battery and could he have my approval to change it. I said yes, and didn't hear back from him. We walked over to the shop to see what was going on and Tim says we have bad news and there is something wrong with the engine. I said that's ok because I bought an extended warranty when I bought the car. So Tim then calls Cornerstone, the worthless 3rd party warranty company that I purchased my extended warranty from. Cornerstone says that they are going to send out an agent to the repair shop.
At this point I only have 2 options. First option is that the agent from Cornerstone and a mechanic from the repair shop will take my engine apart for $500 to determine whether this is covered by my warranty or not. Second option is to buy a used engine and have them replace it. That would cost me $6500 essentially. Well, I make $45,000 a year, so I definitely could not afford option 2. So, they take my engine apart and see that I blew a piston and a bearing. Cornerstone tells me that this was due to there only being 1 quart of oil in the car. I told them I get my oil and fluids changed on a regular basis. The oil change sticker is hanging in my windshield. I get the oil changed generally every 3,000 miles instead of the recommended 5,000 miles. When I was young, I killed one of my first cars by not changing the oil, so I know better and would not let that happen again.
I called the warranty company and tried to argue my case, and the guy really was no help and the only thing he could do was read off of a sheet and not think for himself. I called Toyota and they were not able to help me with anything because they said if I could have taken it to them they could have run a consumption test. How was I supposed to do that when my car is broken down on the side of the road. Generally, this problem happens after 100,000 miles and my car is barely at 109,000. If you Google number one problems for a 2007 Toyota Rav4 oil consumption and engine failure due to oil consumption. Now, I have an over sized paperweight, because I have a car with no engine and I don't know what to do. Do not buy a 2007 Rav4 and definitely do not buy an extended warranty from Cornerstone.

Bought the car from new. Head Gasket gone. Toyota states that it will have to replace the full engine at a cost of 5,000, although it is a known fault with the car. Car now is scrap and Toyota refuses to acknowledge any wrong doing, although as stated known fault and have not recalled any cars in. This in addition to the steering column that broke, yet another known fault, within the first year with a cost of 2,000 pound. I now have a car that I have looked after with a full service history having to be scrapped.

I bought my new Rav4 in 2007 and took it back to the dealer for all scheduled maintenance. In 2015, with less than 60,000 miles on it, I took the car to the dealership for a routine maintenance check, World Toyota in Atlanta, within weeks before going on a trip. All the warning lights came on at once and then went off. I barely had time to make it to a gas station before the engine completely died. The closest dealership was $150 towing away. I arrived in the middle of the night on the Friday before Easter with my dog. After finding a hotel that accepted pets we dropped the car off.
Late the next day I was told the coolant system had a "catastrophic failure". My only recourse was to spend more than the car was worth to replace the engine and any other effected parts they may find once the repairs were started. I rented a car to finish my trip and abandoned the car at the local dealer. No one was interested in purchasing the remnants at any price and World Toyota, where I bought and serviced the car felt no responsibility.

I purchased a used 2007 Toyota RAV4 in late February 2015. According to my trusted and loyal car repairman, the car is a Lemon. In the short time I have owned it, I have accrued well over $6000 in repairs which did not refurbish the vehicle and now the vehicle is not driveable as the engine malfunctioned.
The dealership that sold it to me is refusing to help me since I purchased the vehicle without a warranty. It is my understanding that Illinois does not have Lemon Laws for consumers of used vehicles, however, the federal government may have Lemon Law protection for me. I am seeking a free legal consultation to successfully resolve this matter to recoup the purchase price, all subsequent repairs, legal fees, and damages for being stranded on the highway during a long distance vacation miles from home. The car barely made it to the shoulder before it completely died without any warning lights coming on whatsoever. If the car had died any sooner it would have caused a huge, high-speed, multiple car pile up on the highway.

Loud motor, noise when in drive and brake applied or going up a hill, this is not when cold, it gets worse when the engine is hot. they did a job on the engine, not sure what they did, i think new pistons and crankshaft... it did not fix the problem

i drove my rav4 about 3000 km and a whole bunch of warning lights just come on, i experience a loss of power and the car starts lugging. i drove it to the mechanics and they said it was an engine failure caused by a broken piston ring which damaged the entire engine block, i had to get the engine replaced after driving for 3000 @#$%^&* kms?
This is ridiculous and I'm lucky i still had the warranty. previous Toyota were way more reliable new Toyota are sh*t!!!!!!

I purchased my 2007 Rav4 June 2017 with 10200 miles on it. It used lots of oil from my purchase and continued to get worse...!!!! My oil light never came on unless I turned a corner and simultaneously pressed the brakes, then it would come on and then go right back out! I knew when it was starting to get low because my engine always became louder. I drove 30 miles to work and 35 miles home from work, mainly highway miles. The only thing that i received from Toyota was the recall on the rear seat belts in which I took in and had repaired! I never received anything other than that. I was not even aware that there was an issue with the oil consumption other than it seemed like I was putting excessive amounts in quite regularly!!!
I always kept 3 quarts in the back. One day on my way home from work (( on the highway)) at the start of rush hour, it made a loud noise then continued with a loud knock I lost most of the power to the engine and was barely able to get it over to the side of the highway... I almost got hit by a semi, trying to get over out of the lanes!!! I then had to walk to the next exit and ask to borrow a phone to have some one come and pick me n the car up and tow it home. And that was 1 year and 1 month after I purchased it. The mileage was like 119575 I believe. I did not know there was an ongoing issue with the oil consumption until here recently when I looked up the recall list about the air bag sensors, which I had heard on the news. 😒
