2007 Toyota rav 4. consumer writes in regards to recall concerning the curtain shield airbag sensor. The consumer stated the notice stated there would be no charge to replace the sensor. However, he/she was charged $96.75 for the labor. The consumer was informed a replacement cable was needed because the spiral cable was too short and as a result, the indicator light would stay on showing there was a problem with the curtain shield air bag. The consumer opted not to have the cable installed due to the cost of the replacement.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for NHTSA campaign id number: 11V245000 (air bag: Side window) to have the side air bags sensor replaced. The contact was made aware that the spiral cable failed as a result of the defective sensor. The manufacturer was contact who did not offer any assistance since the spiral cable was not included in the recall. The VIN was not available. The current mileage was 90,000. The consumer stated when the SRS light illuminated, she took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer informed the her, the vehicle was under a recall for a defective side impact air bag ECM and they would run a diagnostic to see what error code was causing the activation of the warning light. The consumer received a call from the service dept, and they stated the vehicle was reporting two separate error codes; the first for the recalled ECM, which was replaced, and a second for a defective spiral cable, which was related to the air bag system, but not covered under the recall. My teenage son lost control of my 2007 Toyota Rav4 and crashed into a tree. I believe the car hit the tree at an angle on the passenger side headlight area. He has been charged with speeding, but I don't know exactly how fast he was going. Three of his friends were in the car, all wearing seat belts. The front seat passenger suffered a serious closed head injury, broken leg and arm, and a punctured lung. The driver had a broken clavicle and the driver's side backseat passenger broke his pelvis. The driver and passenger front airbags deployed, but the passenger side curtain and torso airbags did not deploy, which I suspect caused the front passenger to be more seriously injured. The car is demolished from the passenger headlight area to the back passenger door. The car has never been wrecked before and no airbags have ever deployed before.

Was driving through a parking lot and all side airbags deployed for no reason. All they did was replace airbags. Did not find cause.
