This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Toyota dealer.
I was making a turn when check battery light came on and a strange squealing noise came from the engine. I total lost ability to steer the vehicle and almost hit a pedestrian standing on the corner.

Bullshit again, same vehicle with the oil issue. Steering was clunking brought it in in 2010. Fixed it under warranty. 2013 it,s back and now they won't cover it, out of warranty. This company sucks royally. I've had so many recalls on this vehicle it's a joke.

I have read the reviews on older RAV-4's and my 2008 Limited 3.5L 2 wheel drive has the same clunking problem in the steering column. This is my first Toyota, I've listed other problems in the past with this vehicle, and I won't be purchasing another Toyota product in the future. Some quality Huh??? From other complaints it appears the fix is $750 to $900 and can reoccur after the fix.

My car feels dangerous to drive. When I steer it right or left a loud noise comes from steering column. I am told these cars have steering column issue. It feels very dangerous to me and I am affraid to drive this car with only 85,000 miles on it. Toyota as not recalled this issue. That seems wrong when so many people are having the exact same issue at low miles. This safety concern should be handled by Toyota in a recall as they are fully aware of the defect. I am in for suggesting a class action law suit and am willing to participate in establishing that. I do not want to be the person who looses her life due to Toyota steering column and Air bag issues. What else can I do besides notify the National Safety??
