Was driving on snow covered road and approaching a red light. I went to brake and the RAV kept accelerating. I had my foot down as hard as it would go and finally jerked to a stop. I turned the wheels to the right to try and give myself some distance. Thankful no one was in the right lane. When light changed and I slowly let up on the brake, the car lurched forward and accelerated again and I had to severely brake to maintain control. I was able to the pull into a parking lot and regain composure. I and been driving at 30 mph for about 10 minutes due to road conditions. The rest of the drive home I was afraid to go more than 25-30 mph and kept a huge distance around me. I have owned this vehicle 4 years and have experienced similar occurrences at least 4 other times...have had brakes checked and am in compliance with all recalls/service. Thus by far was the worst .

When I removed my foot from the brake to pull forward, and NOT having my foot on the accelerator, the engine surged and the car took off. Even though I had my foot on the brake and pushing hard enough for the VSC/TRAC light to come on and the intermittent buzzer to sound, the car would not stop. I pushed into PARK (and how was that able to happen), but the front tires continued to turn, the engine continued to rev, and smoke was appearing from the front tires due to friction.
I was only able to make the car stop by turning off the engine, but this happened at the same time as I hit the car in front of me. The damage to my car was repaired for $2000. However, the real issue is that I no longer trust the vehicle and will be getting rid of it as quickly as possible.
As a side note, the brakes on the car are new (less than 4 months old).
