2011 Rav4 with 115,000 miles. Never went longer than 4k between oil changes. Recently I was making a left against traffic and the car died. Oil sensor shut it down. Was 3k between oil changes. Took it to my mechanic - it had burned 3.5 quarts between changes.
Subsequently looked at the car's manual. In 2011 Toyota was OK with burning 1.1 quarts of oil EVERY 600 MILES!!!

Toyota issues a TSB for excessive oil consumption but I'm obviously out of warranty & my car is not included in their TSB, so they won't do crap for me. I went to a dealer & followed their testing recommendations and my car failed the test. No surprise to me since I ran out of oil twice and the car literally stopped running (I don't have a sensor light for when the car is out of oil). Problem only recently started & it's obviously the same problem that exists for the TSB. I've written a letter to the Toyota CEO in Plano & waiting to see if anyone contacts me. But I'm done with Toyota.

I love my rav4. Oil change on time. But f*cking engine drinking oil like no tomorrow. I have to pour 2.5 qt every 1500 miles. Toyota knows that and covers it up.
