I bought this car with 54000 miles on it and over the last 2 years it has accelerated while braking at least 24 times. At first I thought it was me hitting both pedals at same time but as each time it did it I found that nothing was touching gas pedal.

A couple of times when I would brake, the brake felt really hard. When I released the brake and reapplied it the system seemed ok. Turns out the problem was sudden acceleration. Then went on trip out of state had same problem, only much more extreme. Could feel the acceleration each time I broke. Had to hit the brakes so hard that the rotors had to be machined again after having been done 3 weeks prior. Stopped to get gas and had trouble restarting car. Arrived at my location to visit about 1 hour later and check engine light came on. Took it to dealership and they said there were so many codes but came up with replacing the purge valve. They made no written statement about the sudden acceleration on the receipt, but stated that the valve could cause that event as it was trying to adjust the mix of air and fuel. Seemed OK for balance of visit and trip back home - about 2 weeks. Back at home, I was backing out of driveway, had foot on brake and felt the motor increase RPMs, Put car into park and engine raced so fast, I turned off the engine. Upon restarting , it again seemed OK. Took it to my private garage. They looked over everything and checked for codes without finding anything. Upon calling Toyota, they wanted to see it and put it on their computer. That is where it is at this point

While pulling into a parking space and stopping, the brake pedal went mushy, and the RAV4 accelerated, jumping the curb before I was able to stop.

While braking for a red light, my RAV4 brake pedal got mushy and the car accelerated. Was able to stop it before the intersection, but almost had to clean the seat!

3/15/15 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH. I CAME TO A STOP SIGN TO A MAJOR ROAD, TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK COMING DOWN THE MAJOR ROAD--I STEPPED ON BRAKE, CAR KEPT ACCELERATING --MOTOR WAS ENGAGED. I STOOD ON BRAKE. WHEN TRUCK PASSED I CAME OFF BRAKE CAR LURCHED FORWARD. CAME BACK TO NORMAL THIS IS THE 2ND TIME IN 2 DAYS. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR ON 3/9/15, I CANNOT LET MY WIFE OR KIDS DRIVE CAR.

The dealership did pay for the tow to there, but couldn't find a reason for it, and couldn't duplicate it. Since it only happened once, I didn't find it surprising.
They told me that despite the problems widely known about sudden acceleration in other models, they haven't had a problem with the Rav4. I told them that "now they do." Their plan is to have an engineer look at the problem when he's in town in a couple of weeks.
I also called the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin to make a report. 1-888-327-4236.

took it to Lima PERU toyota dealership who said they could find no problem and there were no recalls.
Toyotas problem of a fix and recall continues in newer models than 2010. It really needs to be fixed yesterday already.
