I've been having problems with my brakes making noises when backing up and a scrubbing noise. I took it to a Toyota Service Center and was told nothing was wrong with my brakes. And I've taken it every time I needed oil change but no one checked the brakes even with a rotation. I took my car last week because the dust pan or something came a loose and was told my brakes was really bad and I needed everything. I had to spend $386.00 for brakes when it could have been avoided when I complained.

I begin taking my 2013 RAV4 in for braking noise. When I got there Toyota team told me it could not be brakes, the car is still new. They never could find problem so I just kept driving...Toyota team told me if I hear again bring back. Well I did, but you can only hear when driving for a while nonstop like on highway. They still could not find problem. They told me if I hear the noise again Google a near by Toyota team,
This is what I did, when arriving at nearby dealer I explain to the mechanic what the problem was, he jumped in vehicle with me, he finally heard sound. I was so happy someone finally heard sound that was a pain in the butt.... So he says I'm going to take it apart and see what is going on. Finally the results. They had the nerve to tell me my brakes were worn thin and that this was normal because looking at the mileage It is normal wear. I ask them are you f..king serious, you are going to charge me for a problem I been dealing with before my mileage even reach brake pad change?
So this what I told them, put back together, write down my problem and I will take back to my local dealer. I drove to my dealer which was some distance, still was making noise. Gave them the paper work from other dealer they look at brakes told me the mileage I put on since the last time they check my brakes. What they were looking at it would be impossible for my pads to be crumbled like this, the damage was messed up behind the pads you will not find just looking at it even the rotors were damaged. They could not figure out why this would happen, they did replace everything for me free of charge ...Told me no worries everything is good now..
A month later the noise started back up.. Took it in they said my alignment was off, tires wearing uneven, this I get charged for. Like I'm crazy, I know brake noise when I hear it. The next day start hearing sound again, I mean who has freaking time like this to take off work just for people to start thinking your crazy...So I take car back in, they tell me they found some glaze on brakes, maybe from braking to hard so they remove glaze.. A day later still hear sound you only hear when pads heat up or like in stop & go traffic. You won't see it by flashing a light, have to take apart!!!!!!
OK, removing the glaze still did not work. Not only did it not work, went to stop, brakes paddle went damn near to the floor before stopping.. I really don't know what to do there is something seriously wrong with the engineering this car. We need to band together and get these cars recalled before someone gets killed, these are our brakes we are talking about. :-(
Update from Feb 19, 2015: They had a field manager come out an check my vehicle 2-19-2015, they did a computer test on brakes an abs .... Basically they said their not able to fix the problem, because the problem is me!!!!! They said know one can move there brake foot this fast with out coming off of gas pedal.....So they will not be able to assist me any further...They told me I drive with two feet.........I show the field manager your complaint also he di not bother to even read they know what the problems is, trust me......... Please we need to come together on this before there is a major accident....email me Twiceblessed49@yahoo.com

My 2013 REV 4 brakes are squeaking randomly and I just had the car serviced about month and half ago, they didn't notice anything but it's still there. Sometimes in the early COLD mornings I get this grounding noise for 1st about 2 or 3 miles then it just goes away.

I have been experiencing a clunking noise in the rear of the car which could also be a suspension issue that hear at the same time by the feet of the passengers in the middle of the car. I have taken it to the dealer several times and can not replicate the noise on demand. One dealer heard it but could not figure it out. Took it to arbitration but because I could not replicate the noise a second time for a dealer it has been dismissed. Don't buy the new Rav 4.

I noticed the noise when I moved to California in the end of 2015. I then took my car in for oil change. I asked the dealer for any recall on the brakes and they told me no. I explained to them of what were going on on my car. They told me they will check the brakes for free for me. They found nothing and advised me to come back again if the noise didn't go away.
The issue continue on. I wait til my next oil change again and check it. They told me they couldn't find any issue. but it seems like there is dust built up on the brake and they will blow it for me for free. The issue still not solved. The noise even got worse. I went in and complained again the next 2 more oil changes. Due to they couldn't find anything wrong and I kept complaining about the noise, they told me I need new rotors. They told me it will cost about $500.00. I don't know much about cars, so I told them no. $500 is a lot of money and my car is still under the protection that I bought with the car with.
I believed that I complained too much and they just gave me excuses, so I never got my car fixed. It is very annoying. Now I just ignore it. At least I complained to the dealer. If in the future something wrong, I am sure I will sue them.
