The fuel tank on my 2019 Rav4 hybrid does not fill up to capacity and only allows to be filled up to around 10 gallons. I have tried sever different fueling stations, brands, and pump dispensers but none of them allow to car to fill up to it's full limit. Estimated loss of range is around 100 miles per tank.

The fuel tank capacity is about 9 gallons way too lower than the specification. This is causing too many trips to the gas station than expected. The purpose of buying a hybrid is defeated.

The gas tank is advertised to hold 14.5 gallons. When I fill up, the pump stops after adding only about 8 gallons. I can very slowly add more, but I don't know if that is dangerous. I have had it overflow and spill when I've tried that. The smaller capacity severely reduces the number of miles between filling. I also have an issue with mpg. A main reason I bought the car was for the 40mpg. But I've never gotten that. I average around 28.

This hybrid car has a 14.5 gallon gas tank and on a full tank, you should be able to get 570-580 miles until empty based on an average of 39-41 mpg. When gas tank is on "E" with only 10 miles to empty, the tank will only take about 10 gallons of gas before shutting the pump off. It will not take a full 14.5 gallons of gas, leaving my tank about 4.5 gallons short of its capacity, which would be about 180 miles I am not getting on a full tank of gas. When gas tank is filled up completely, it is only readiing that I have about 400-450 miles to empty and that should be reading 570-580 so right there, it proves the gas tank is not filling up completely. Even going by the reduced reading of 400-450 miles, I only seem to be getting 350-370 miles to empty. Although driving conditions can vary this statistic, it seems way off considering most of my driving is local and non-highway. For example, I waited until gas tank had only 10 miles to go before being empty, filled it up completely (pump would not allow more than 10 gallons) and drove on that tank of gas until almost completely empty. I drove 352 miles on that full tank and based on that with the car having a 14.5 gallon capacity tank, that only averages 24 mpg but since I could only fill it up approximately 10.5 gallons, it works out to 33.6 mpg, still below the stated average. So, I am not getting the stated mpg that I should as well as not being able to fill up gas tank to 14.5 gallon capacity.

Toyota claim that my 2019 Toyota Rav4 fuel tank is 14.5 gallon and average miles per gallon is 40 (40 X 14.5 = 580 miles for one tank). But I never fuel up to that level at all. The max I can fuel up is 10 gallons. (40 X 10 = 400 miles max). So it is loss 180 miles here somehow. If this is the case Toyota should advertise their vehicle with 10 gallons tank for all of their future Rav4 SUV. Or they should fix the fuel tank issue here. Please help. This is something wrong from a brand name as a reliable Toyota. I notice this issue right after I bought my car in May 2019. I brought back to the piercey Toyota dealer and complain, but they keep saying this is normal for hybrid car. This is not making sense at all.

Fuel tank can't be filled to the full capacity. Even with continued attempts to further fill the tank, it is short by a couple gallons. Just a few weeks after purchasing the vehicle, the issued was raised (now over 6 months ago) to both the local NJ dealer as well as Toyota motor sales headquarters. Still no resolution.

The gas tank does not accept enough gasoline to fill the tank. Upon fueling, the dispenser clicks to stop when only 9-10 gallons are in the tank. The stated fuel tank capacity is 14.5 gallons, thus the tank can only be filled to less than 70% capacity. The problem seems to be worse in cold weather conditions.

Impossible to fill gas tank to capacity. When tank reported as under 1/4 can only add 7-8 gallons. Will only fill to 7/8 of a tank per the gauge. Only way to fill tank full is to top it off. Occurs at every fill up. We reported this to both Toyota and the dealer. We brought the car in for service regarding this issue more than once. They acknowledged the issue but have done nothing to fix it. Running out of fuel may result in an accident or leave drivers stranded on the side of a busy or deserted road creating a safety hazard. Running out of fuel may damage the vehicles, including their fuel system components. The owner's manual warns that if the subject vehicles run out of fuel or the fuel is too low, the hybrid system may not be able to start. The fuel tank defect creates environmental and safety hazards by causing drivers to 'top off' (restart a fuel pump after it has automatically shut off) the fuel tank to try and achieve a complete fill-up. Topping off causes hazardous gas spills creating a danger to the driver, the environment and the vehicle. As a result, the fuel tank defect increases the environmental impact of these hybrid vehicles by increasing the number of trips consumers must make to refuel and causing environmental harm related to fuel evaporation and spillage (causing both groundwater contamination and emission of gasoline vapor).

Our new in September 2019 Toyota rav 4 hybrid has the fuel problem that it appears thousands of others do. It has a 14.5 gallon tank, but the system won't allow you to fill the tank. At every gas station, the pump is initially shut off with many gallons left to go to fill the tank. This leads to a situation where you have trickle fill to get it close to full. Trickle a little in, the vapor system shuts it off---and do that again and again and again until you feel you are close to full. It's easy to overfill and easy to spill gas onto the ground while doing so. I have returned to my Toyota dealer twice and complained about the fuel problem. They assured me Toyota was working to solve the problem. Apparently Toyota has known about this problem since may of 2019, however, Toyota continues to sell this vehicle with a known defect. I was not advised of this known defect when I purchased the car.

I bought my car brand new in August 2019 and within a few months began to see issues with the gas tank fill-up and mileage gage. The main issue I saw was the gas tank not being able to fill all the way. When I fill the tank up normally (letting the gas pump run and click off on its own), the tank fill-up gage shows it only about 3/4 of the way full (I.e. the gas pump stops filling significantly short of the tank being full). After this, I forcefully top up the tank numerous times (6-7 times) to get it even close to the full mark on the tank gage. Even when the gage reads the tank as full, I've only filled up the tank about 10 gallons even though the tank is supposed to hold 14 or 15 gallons. Additionally, the miles to empty gage seems off from reality. When tracking my miles, the gage seems to be around 50 miles off calibration from how far I travel (I.e. when I travel 200 miles, the miles to empty reading decreases 250 miles). This may or may not be related to the gas fill-up issue. I called my local dealership regarding this issue, who informed me they were aware of this issue and have put me on a list of other owners who are dealing with the same issue. It seems that this is a very prevalent issue. It has been 6 months since purchasing my car and I still have not heard of any fix.

Toyota is knowingly selling and not repairing a potentially non-compliant vehicle. I purchase a 2019 Toyota Rav4 xse hybrid and Toyota did not disclose that there was a gas tank issue. Toyota is false advertising that gas mileage and continuing to sell the 2019 and 2020 Rav4 hybrids with the same gas tank issue. The gas tank will not fill to its advertised capacity and it is not get the advertised mpgs. It has a 14.5 gallon tank but will only take 9 gallons on empty. And I have only been getting 30 mpg and the advertised is for 41mpg. Toyota is aware of the problem and have been aware for about a year now and has not fixed the problem. I have taken my car in and I was told there is no fix. I opened a case with Toyota and have yet to be reached out to so I can get the problem resolved. I purchased this car because of the gas tank and mpgs and now I purchased for nothing, this tank and mpg issue should have been disclosed at the time of purchase so I would have had the right to make a decision to purchase or not.

Stationary problem. Unable to fill car completely. Takes a maximum of around 9.5 gallons of 14.5 gal tank. Stated range should be between 580 and 550 miles. Never exceeded 429 distance to empty, typically 392 miles dte with 36 mpg avg. Toyota is unresponsive to issue. I lack confidence in fuel computer and system.
