This is a new vehicle purchased on January 14, 2020. Vehicle is using small amounts of coolant by the engine. The coolant tank reservoir was at full and after 835 miles it half way to add more. More than likely related to the recall Toyota just opened on the 2.5L blocks having cracks. The manufacture knew of the problem at the engine block manufacturer in TN in early Sept. 2019 and was able to find problem with a faulty cooling gauge, and resolved the problem at plant. They continued to run testing on engine blocks to see how the cooling process was going to affect the integrity of the block.
They came to a conclusion when the dealership got the first engine block leaking coolant into the oil. So the point is that Toyota has recalled 44,000 or so and has identified 250 blocks. I feel that at the point Toyota identified the blocks affected, those vehicles could have been stopped from selling at the dealerships. These are new vehicles that you are selling to loyal and new customers. No one that buys a new car wants a dealership to put a new engine into a new car after one month.
My reason in purchasing a new vehicle is to know it has been assembled by the manufacture and has not being touched by anyone else, including Toyota Dealers mechanics. Manufactures are capable of the identifying parts and there s/n's affected by non conformant components that go into these vehicles with the VIN. In this case it the largest most important part of the vehicle and feel Toyota should buy back these vehicles. They cannot fix the fact they sat on the information on the 250 blocks and place sell holds on those vehicles. Know that this is the right time to do the right thing for loyal Toyota customers, and I have been a loyal customer since 1986, and have seen slowly since Toyota quality go down.
What are the S/N's affected, they are not listed in the recall. I was told by Toyota Customer Rep. that the dealers have the list. Well, as a customer, I would like to see the list. I know that I can take to the dealer and they check the serial, but sorry, that is not enough for me. If Toyota is going to recover for this, they will need to show transparency.
