Experienced a Left Rear Flat Tire while driving 55 MPH; causing a rumble sound from L/R. Pulled over and the Left Rear Tire was FLAT. Did not get any warning on the display for Low Tire Pressure.
I called my insurance roadside assistance and they came out and installed the spare tire. I then drove 2 miles to a Les Schwab's tire shop in Sublimity, Oregon. They found a nail had punctured the tire dead center in the middle of the tread. Upon removing the tire from rim; it had experienced internal blisters and fractures associated with driving it while it was going slowly flat. The tire was ruined...and Unserviceable..!!
I called my service advisor at Capitol Toyota and found out that there was NO Warranty on tires installed on New Cars and sold by the car Dealer. Any Warranty would need to be from the Tire Manufacture; which was Yokohama. My service adviser ordered a new exact replacement tire and the tire and installation cost me $307.00. Upon investigating why the tire pressure warning system did not activate; I lowered the tire pressure (One At A Time) down to 25 PSI (normal is 35 PSI) and drove the car 3.5 miles up to 45 miles per hour and did NOT GET ANY LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING ON THE MULTI-FUNCTIONAL DISPLAY!!
I also found out that Toyota has removed the feature on the multifunctional display that allows you to read the actual Live tire pressure on all 4 tires. That pisses me off to the MAXIMUM. Toyota wants you to download their APP to your Smart Phone and that information on tire pressure IS NOT LIVE; ITS OLD AND NOT CURRENT TIRE PRESSURE... WHICH IS FREAKING WORTHLESS. THE APP IS FREE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, THEN THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR ITS USE. THEY WANT ME TO PAY FOR THEIR APP - WHEN ITS USELESS!!!
I have an appointment On August 17th at Capitol Toyota in Salem Oregon to drop the car off and leave it there until its fixed and the tire pressure warning system works just like all previous 6 NEW Toyotas we have owned. If not, I intend to turn it over to my attorney and implement Oregon's LEMON LAW - where Toyota will be required to buy my car back at the new price we paid for it...
