RAV4 Hybrid XSE

  • CVT transmission
  • 10,400 miles

This is third time my 2019 Hybrid RAV4 has had a cracked windshield from a small gravel hit. The first time the entire windshield had to be replace. The second and third times it can be fixed by a glass repair shop. It appears that Hybrid RAV4's have a special windshield with I assume is due to weight. If so, I'd rather sacrifice mileage for strength of the product. This is getting to be a huge pain in the rear. It is a shame Toyota allows such an inferior piece of critical equipment to be installed on one of their premier products.

RAV4 Hybrid XSE

  • CVT transmission
  • 3,000 miles

Windshield cracked with a minor rock hit. I have had much worst rock hits in other cars with no damage. I noticed that the windshield was replaced with a 'Hybrid RAV4" windshield, with had to be special ordered. That would seem to imply that they are some how different. I wonder if the difference is weight and the windshield is manufactured with glass that will not withstand normal wear and tear.

It is very difficult to drive now, especially with all the road construction, to not have some small gravel fragments hitting your windshield from time to time. This is the first of three times I have had the windshield repaired. Hardly "just bad luck" if that is Toyota's standard answer.
