ABS, vsc, and trac lights illuminated on engine start and will not extinguish. Dealer ran codes, claims faulty master cylinder pressure sensor, stroke sensor, yaw rate sensor, and skid ECU: $2777.50. Vehicle mileage 69872. At approx 48K miles similar event with addition of engine light, replaced O2 sensor and resolved. Much experience with aircraft ABS tells me very unlikely all sensors and computers fail simultaneous but dealer sticking to script, claims first ever seen this type problem.

Vsc/ABS skid control ECU failure on 2003 Sequoia @ 56,410 miles (orignal owner). ECU failure is a known issue by every Toyota Sequoia owner, but Toyota claims it's limited. This failure requires that vsc/ABS skid control ECU / yaw rate sensor be replaced. The repair cost was $794.20 for part and labor at the local Toyota dealer. Now, considering the severity of the defect and number of complaints on this site I'm very suprized not to see a recall notice to date.

Vsc/ABS skid control ECU failure. The dealership is saying that my 2003 Toyota Sequoia limited 2 wd 53,500 miles needs a new ABS computer at a cost of $3,600. Approximately 2 years ago I had the exact same thing happen, the car actually froze up and the dealership had it towed to their location to fix it, they said it was the third member and replaced that. Now the same thing is happening and they won't do anything.

Trac, vsc, brake light had been coming on and then going out. This particular incident involved them coming on during a turn into traffic at which time all power was lost nearly causing an accident. Dealer treated this as 2 different problems:an induction service was performed for the "hesitation" at my expense, and a brake booster gasket and assembly were installed under the warranty. The lights continued to go off and on from time to time, but the car did not lose power again after this "fix".the lights continued to come on and off intermittently until in August 2006 the check engine light and vcs/trac lights came on and would not go out. This time, my dealer replaced the oxygen sensor at my expense. Now, with 70,000 miles on 9-26-07 the vsc/trac & check engine lights came on while traveling on the road and will not go out on turning off the engine as they sometimes did in the past. I believe after reading all the complaints about this problem on various internet sites some sort of action should be taken at Toyota's expense. I am also filing a report about the new rear window motor and hatch release handle I had to replace in July on this vehicle which also is mentioned in many reports I've read on the internet. I can't tell you how many failures on the light situation I've had because they've been in the dozens.

My 2003 Toyota Sequoia has had multiple failures of it ABS ECU translate. The ABS ECU translate has been replaced twice and had been into the dealership six times without a resolution to the problem. The brake warning light has come on mutiple times.

2003 Toyota Sequoia (2wd) without warning the vsc/trac system engaged while turning on dry pavement causing a loss in acceleration. This was the initial incident which was followed by multiple other incidents at random intervals. Incidents occurred while making both left and right turns from a turning or stopping position. Trac off "button" does not disengage the system as indicated in the owner's manual from a low speed. Local dealership ran diagnostic test and recommended new tires/brakes but could not identify any "problems" with the vsc system other than the vsc system had engaged. After 4 new tires and new rear brakes were installed service tech drove vehicle and experienced the issue. He recommended documenting when the incidents occurred and under what circumstances in order to determine repair options. The vsc system continues to engage randomly causing a loss in acceleration when this occurs and is dangerous if driver has need to pull into traffic in instances such as turning onto major roadways.

The trac off and vsc trac light are on on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia with only 46,422 miles. Skid control will kick in even when driving less than 5 mph. Engine also stalled once out on busy street as skid control kicked in. Dealer diagnostic indicated bad skid control computer so ABS and skid features will not function properly. This seems to be a common problem with 2001-2002 and early 2003 Toyota Sequoia.

My vsc/trac sensor has been going on and off and every time I needed to have it check, the problem never appears. Except for today, the light has stayed on and my mechanic was able to diagnosed and verified it with Toyota's tsb as a defective vsc/trac ECU and he recommended that I take it to a dealer for the replacement and installation of the new ECU. Several tsb's are posted on the NHTSA website regarding this problem for my vehicle year and make. My complaint is, I feel that it is unacceptable that a computer device that plays a vital role in the safety performance of the vehicle should not have failed within 5 years, especially for a considerable cost to have it replace after the warranty period. Toyota should have at least sent out notices to the owners regarding this potential problem.

This failure requires that vsc/ABS skid control ECU be replaced at a cost of $1300 - $2100 depending on location. This should be recalled by the manufacturer or, by government intervention due to the severity of the defect and the potential for accidents and/or death resulting from the defective computer system causing the vehicle to lock up and lose power.
