My vsc, trac off, check engine light and the exclamation sing all came on for the first time since I bought my Sequoia, and it started jerking and when I set my foot on the break it starts to pull, as I got on the interstate my Sequoia accelerated itself the RPM when up to # 5 it really scared me I have to take it this morning to Toyota to have it checked, I do travel with my children alot and that is a safety concern for me.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the track, ABS, vsc, brake, and check engine warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer replaced the master cylinder and the brake booster, but the warning lights continued to illuminate. The manufacturer was notified, but denied any assistance with repairs of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 83,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Vsc trac, vsc off and ABS lights all come on at once. I took the vehicle to my mechanic and he couldn't pull the code as it was off by the time I got there. Brakes had good pad left. The light came on 3 times today and went off just as unexpectedly.

2005 Sequoia - this is now my 2nd formal complaint. Vehicle has skid control, check engine, brake, ect lights on and multiple times lost braking control in traffic. I took to the dealer 3 times and finally they replaced the ECU ($1000) and assured me that this was the problem. Guess what? problem is back after just a couple months. Now it is said that the brake booster needs replacing($1000). Toyota has recalled this problem on other years but not the 2005. The time is now! this is a very dangerous vehicle for my family with 3 young children, plus it is costing us alot of time and money! Toyota.....please try and keep your reputation and help your loyal customers.

Toyota Sequoia skid control ECU on a 2005 model, failed, causing inconsistent braking response among multiple lights detecting failures that are related to the part the brake light continuously went off along with he vsc since may of 2010 have had it in to Toyota 3 times for the problem the last time they finally were able to tell me it was the skid control ECU and it was not a recall item despite the recall on the 2003 Sequoia's.

I have a newly purchased, one owner, preowned Sequoia, the vehicle has been serviced every 5000 miles and all recommended maintenance has been completed at the same dealer each time. I have recently taken it for inspection and the dealer failed it because the vsc skid control ECU needs to be replaced because of error codes. This is a $2300 dollar repair. After looking online this is an very common issue. So much so that Toyota issued a tsb and changed the part out for a new one on future models. I feel like Toyota is very aware of this defect which is a brake related concern which to me is a severe safety issue. I would like Toyota to own up to this and pay for the costly repair. I read on a forum that everyone experiencing this issue should complain to NHTSA in hope of forcing Toyota's hand. I am Canadian that exported this vehicle and I have been told that I need to deal with us Toyota.

Toyota - there is very serious problem with the vbs, skid control, braking system with the Toyota 2005 Sequoia!!!!! my brakes locked up and I had no control of the car in terms of handling or braking power - lucky for me I drive like a cautious grandmother and was driving slowly stopping at a routine stop. This event happened after months and months of taking the car in. After this serious event I knew that it was not a problem not to be worried about.... Toyota replaced the skid control computer - close to 1000. I was told this was a 99% fix. Fastforward and the light is on again about a month later....now they claimed the master cylinder was at fault for another near thousand dollars. The repairing dealership serviceman assured me they finally got it and said he would feel very safe for me to travel out of town. I was hesitant, but did leave to go out of town....only to find myself at yet another dealership with the same brake lights coming on.....and then going off when they went in to the service stall. They still have the car as I refused to take it back and they state until the problem "recreates itself" they are at a loss to date. To me to take the chance to recreate the loss of control of the car....and the braking system is utterly nuts. In short, I will not be driving that car ever again. Nor do I want any other person in that potential "death trap." If the national highway safety does not step in.....I am telling you....there will be deaths!!!!! I have no question in my mind over this issue!!!!! please contact me and recall this for the life of somebody.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing which located the failure at the skid control unit and master cylinder, which would both need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,950.

My 2005 Toyota Sequoia has been having intermittent brake lights coming on and off for months. Usually when I would turn the car off the lights would go off - only to return again for no apparent reason. I have brought the car in many times only to hear that the lights have to stay on for good to analyze and or fix it.....a Toyota dealership in savannah made this comment on my last full service appt and made the same reply yesterday. Yesterday while braking on a clear day at a slow rate of speed at a routine light the brakes made a terrible grinding noise with an almost wreck caused by the this failure and all the brake, ABS and vcs lights coming on. Today I replaced the skid control computer at a dealership...for a price of one thousand dollars! 2 dealerships said this is step one in the problem and that "hopefully" it will not happen again. As the mother of a small child, I am at all happy with this answer as I know this is a real safety issue!!!!! had I been on the highway my child and I might not have made it as all control was lost. I think a recall is needed!!!!!!!!! I have read of many reports of 2005's with the same problem. Please contact me. Thanks.

At around 51,000 miles the ABS and vsc light came on. Lights went out 2 days later. It would come on intermittently about every other month for about 2 days then go out. Took it to my mechanic and he found no codes stored. Now it has 100,00 miles and the light stays on. Took it to a Toyota dealer and was told the skid control ECU needs replaced. Was told it was a common problem for my year Sequoia. I was told then that when the lights are on, the functions do not work. I feel this has been a safety issue that Toyota has been aware of but has done nothing to correct.

While driving my 2005 Toyota Sequoia the brake light and vsc trac lights come on for no reason. I took my car to the dealership to get it repaired and they tightened the emergency brake. 5 minutes down the road it came back on, so I took the car back and they said it needed a new brake computer system, so we replaced it, that evening the lights came on again and now they are saying I need a new power brake booster. I don't think they know what is going on, one of the guys admitted he knew this was a problem but B/C not enough people have complained their has not been a recall. So the car is still not fixed and we worry about our families safety. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Brake warning light comes on periodicaly. Vsc light shows on and off. All three lights come on and off. Traction control is activated without warning. I am reluctant to take in to the shop, since many of the compaints have spent much $$ and no results. This is very similar to the issue the 2003 models were having, which Toyota recalled the problem. This needs to be addressed on all models and all years that are affected. This vehicle is used by my wife and three kids. It is stressful knowing that this vehicle could potentially harm my family.

2005 Toyota Sequoia failure of skid control ECU and brake booster, detected by diagnostic test by dealership. Dealership service personnel strongly suggested replacing at $2K cost or the vehicle would be a safety hazard (brakes could lock up at any time, which would create an extreme hazard). As the vehicle owner I had no choice but to pay the exorbitant repair cost.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 45 mph, the emergency brake service light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the traction control computer was replaced. Approximately one year later, the failure recurred. The contact was driving 15 mph when the emergency brake service light illuminated and when she applied the brakes, they failed to stop the vehicle. The contact also heard a grinding noise when the brakes were applied. All of the service lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to be inspected. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000. The current mileage was 72,056.

The brake light constantly goes on and off. I notice the light permanently stays on after leaving the freeway when the engine slows down (not even stepping on the brakes yet). Then, the light doesn't disappear until after the engine is powered off. We brought the vehicle in when in warranty and stated the problem. The first 3 years, all they did was inspect the brake system but nothing was done. We were verbally given an example what they did for a previous customer (changed all the sensors and the system board) but still no fix. At the last service check, another service rep said, don't worry about it because we checked the brakes and they're okay and this is a common problem. These last two weeks (off and on) at the intersection waiting for the red light to turn green, I notice the brake lights are on and suddenly the engine is trying to accelerate and then it stops.

2005 Toyota Sequoia trac off, vsc trac, and check engine lights all came on suddenly on vehicle with 62K miles. Understand this is common problem and that Toyota has recognized this as a common problem with these vehicles but will not correct. Cost to correct is $1,500 - $2,700.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The brake lights, check engine light, and vcs track light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately nine times. The dealer replaced the brake booster the first time, checked the emissions and cleared the codes the second time, cleared the code the third time, replaced the fuel filter neck the fourth time, and replaced the brake booster again the fifth time. While driving at an unknown speed, the brakes failed and the dealer replaced the computer skid control. The current mileage was 20,000 and failure mileage was 6,802.

When our driveway is slippery, our 2005 Toyota Sequoia will not stop on a very slight incline. The front wheels lock up and the rear wheels keep pulling the vehicle until the roadway is reached. Toyota claims this is normal and the vehicle needs to be in four wheel drive with the center axle lock on! I don't know what they recommend for a two wheel drive Sequoia. I have a video of the vehicle in action if you would like to see it. Thank you.
