Trac off, vsc trac, engine light came on...trouble code was P1444 (secondary air injection system switching value stuck)...vehicle had problems accelerating. Repairman indicated that the air injection pump/check values needed to be replaced and very expensive. Based on other reports it appears that this is a frequent occurrence and vehicles shutting down on interstates. Others have said that Toyota knows about this but won't issue an extended warranty, but offers for newer vehicles. Owned several Toyota before this...this could be a deal breaker for future Toyota.

While driving straight down the street, I heard a grinding sound and all of the vsc trac warning lights came on. After stopping and restarting the car, the car behaved normal again. This is the second occurrence. I'm presuming that the grinding noise might be the brakes pulsating. It is not safe for the brakes to automatically apply themselves during safe driving conditions.

My vsc, trac and brake light all came on all of sudden with a large boom sound. The car stalled on me in an intersection. The lights go off once car is turned off and then after turning car back on they will come on about 5 minutes after driving. Car loses power every so often now. Dealer said it needs a new computer.

The vsc, trak light and ABS lights came on which in turn made the check engine light come on. They stay on continually. At first no code could be found. Then dealer stated that the ECU had to be replaced as well as air pump - both totalling over $3000. This is not the only Sequoia to have this happen. Other years have been recalled so why not the 2005 - or any other year since it seems to be an issue. I emailed and talked to Toyota. They have not heard of this problem and can not help with it's solution. Last Toyota I'll have.

Brake light indicator intermittently came on over several months (Jan - May 2011) and at various speeds. Sometimes at startup, other times at hwy speed. Since fluid was full and clean, did not take car in right away. Mentioned to dealer at 60K mi. Svc to diagnose. Toyota dealer diagnosed the source of the problem was a malfunctioning "electronic skid computer." Cost $122 to diagnose and $1120 to replace. I understand this computer controls the stability control and ABS systems, so it is a potential safety hazard.

After I have driven my 2005 Toyota Sequoia for approx 20+ miles, when I apply the brakes the ABS, brake, trac, vsc, etc. Lights all light up on the dash. When this happens the SUV becomes a little harder to control. It wants to pull to one side when applying the brakes. If you stop and turn off the SUV and restart the lights go off. Most of the time the lights will come on a short time later. I contacted Toyota in July of 2009 and they told me to take it to the dealer. I would have to pay to have it fixed since my warranty had expired. I have been doing research online and this is a big problem with many Sequoia owners. Toyota does not seam to have an answer for this issue.

Trac lights came on one month ago at about 95,000 miles. Car had trouble shifting gears and gaining speed. A reputable car dealer (not Toyota) turned the lights off. Grinding stopped- car was fine. The lights came on again today when engine started. Again, car had trouble gaining speed and changing gears at 99,000 miles. Warranty expires at 100,000 miles or seven years.

Our vsc/trac light and engine light simultaneously come on for an unknown reason. Our mechanic can not find a solution. Our emergency brake light comes on and off for no necessary reason as well. This has happened three or four times and no one can fix it. I am afraid to take it to Toyota because of the bad experiences posted online where consumers have received many varying answers, expensive repairs, and in some case, still no solution. We are in the market to buy a new car and it makes resale very difficult with these lights on and no answer as to why they are on... and no way to turn them off... so we wait. Many people have posted on the internet about this same problem in other 2005 Sequoias. Our computer keeps throwing varying and different errors... and my mechanic thinks the errors are not accurate. Could it be a computer or electrical malfunction? please help.

Started car and hear a loud whining noise but no lights came on. Within 2 days the whining noise was not heard when starting car but trac off, vsc light, and check engine light were all on. Took the truck to mechanic and he changed the battery and flushed the brake fluid. Lights were off for about 2 more starts of the truck and all lights were back on. Took it back to the mechanic the next day and he kept the truck for 2 days, called Toyota and they told him to replace the air injection driver. This was done 12 Nov 10 and by 13 Nov 10 all lights are back on again and the truck is having issues picking up speed.

This has been going on since April 2010, its now November 2010 with no resolution. My 2005 Toyota Sequoia trac off, vsc trac, check engine lights and ABS lights keep coming on. Brought into the dealer three times while the lights were on so the dealer could put it on the computer. No codes show up. I am told that it's not covered even though we have the Toyota certified bumper to bumper warranty. They recalled the 2003 for the same problem. They need to do the same for the 05. Repair cost for this is $2200.

A week after a 36000 mile service and not used for a week, when finally driven, minutes into the drive the emergency light and the traction dash lights came. When taken to dealer, was informed it was the brake booster and computer. I'm baffled this unit(s) would need replacing at 36 thousand miles. Not to mention that the first dealer's visit two wheel studs were placed due to rust. It's very disturbing not knowing what might happen next. The vehicle is used only for long distance trekking.

When I am driving my 2005 Toyota Sequoia SR5 on dry surface, sometimes going straight, sometimes during a turn, the vehicle stability control alarm begins to go off and the corresponding light flashes on the dashboard. All power is lost - I cannot accelerate or even brake, I can only turn the wheel. Sometimes, in addition, a severe grinding sound is heard, regardless of whether or not I touch the brakes. This has happened, suddenly, about twenty times in the past week. One day it happened five times within a fifteen minute period. I have four small children, and this is very unsafe. We all could be killed should it happen when oncoming traffic is unavoidable. I took it to Toyota immediately and they told me there was no problem. I took it back two days later and they told me I needed a new yawr sensor.

I have a 05 Toyota Sequoia and have recently been experiencing some electrical problems. I had some routine maintenance done on my car in early August two days later my skid control light came on causing my car to slow down followed by a brake light. When my husband took it to the Toyota dealer they said the tilt had to be zero calibrated. The same day after leaving the light came on again. The skid light started to come on more frequently and I got a little worried for my children's safety. I returned to the Toyota dealer for them to tell me that I needed to replace the skid control system at a cost of 840 with no guarantee to fix my car. Two days later I took it to them to be replaced and they were not so sure that was the real problem. They said it could be the break booster and they were going to take a further look. The next day when we called to check on my car they informed us they had the same exact problem in another vehicle that they did replace the skid system and did not fix the problem only generated different codes. They said they were going to keep my car to compare it to the other cars codes. I still am waiting to hear what is wrong with my car. I have looked online trying to find answers and this seems to be a problem with this model. I feel the manager of the Toyota dealer where I live knows that this is a problem and all but telling me it was not going to fix my issue. I have three small children and we all leave for the beach in three weeks and they don't even know what is causing this malfunction. The 03 Sequoia was recalled for almost the same thing. I feel that this is a safety issue and could be dangerous. I have been very careful not to full in front of anybody due to this. I full out onto a road and my car stalls. This is very dangerous to me and my family and Toyota is not doing anything to fix it.... this should be recalled!!!

We have a 2005 Toyota Sequoia and my vsc trac, vsc off and ABS lights came on and stayed on when my husband was backing up from our garage we heard a grinding noise and felt the vibrating grinding. So I look it up on the manual and it tells us to take it to a dealer. But the dealership is closed so I looked online to research it and found that may people with Sequoia's between the years 2003-2005 are having this problem. It definitely should be recalled. I have 5 kids and I would hate for me to experience a bad scenario while driving. There's many complaints so I don't see why it is not being recalled.

Vsc/ABS skid control ECU failure, the problems we have observed since this has occurred and after 3 times of taking the car into the dealership we have been told the ECU is failing? 1. the car actually froze up 2. instrument panel lights remained illuminated. 3. the brakes failed on one occasion and quickly came back, but made metal grinding noise. 4. at various times the ABS kicked in even though the brakes were not applied 5. SUV did not properly respond to brake or steering 6. the car occasionally thinks that we are skidding out of control and begins pulsating the brakes 7. while backing out of the driveway the brakes engaged. If you google Toyota Sequoia and ECU or vsc or ABS you will not many people have complained about this issue. In all instances stopping and restarting the car has reset the lights and the issue went away.

Both vsc and trac off warning lights are on as well as my brake light. Fluid is topped off and brakes were just replaced by Toyota a couple of months ago. I have pressed the trac off button but nothing happens. It vehicle appears to drive fine and dealer stated the skid control ECU is bad. However, as usual when going to a dealer, the lights are no longer on. Still id 'd problem as the skid control.
