Sequoia SR5 V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,002 miles

A couple of days ago, when I was driving on the highway, my Sequoia suddenly stopped accelerating. Trac light and vsc light and check engine light came on. My speed would not go above 40mph and would not even brake. I was in the left lane and the cars behind me were going pretty fast and almost hit me. I am lucky there was no car in the right lane, so I pulled to that lane just in time. It was a scary moment for me because my kids were with me also. I always thought of Toyota of having safety in their cars, but when I came home to research what might be happening to the car, I found out many people are having the same exact problem and thus it is a manufacturer’s problem. I am surprised Toyota is not doing anything about this. Do they not care of the safety of the consumers? The mileage on my Sequoia is only 39,000 and I do not drive it too often, and also have maintained it very well. We spend so much money on this car and this vehicle really was not worth it if it came with so many factory defaults. Please follow-up on this issue to have it resolved.

Sequoia Limited V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

THIS CAR HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE LEMON! IT CURRENTLY HAS 120,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD TO PREVIOUSLY REPLACE 1) THROTTLE BODY 2) THROTTLE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH 3) BRAKE BOOSTER. BUT NOW THE CAR UNEXPECTEDLY, WHILE DRIVING, STOPS ACCELERATION SUDDENLY. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO TOYOTA OF KNOXVILLE, TN. THEIR TECHS SAY "DATA LEADS TO BELIEVE ECU HAS AN INTERMITTENT FAILURE. DATA IS NOT DEFINITIVE. UNABLE TO PERFORM REPAIRS PER TOYOTA TECHNICAL AT THIS TIME."

THEY TOLD ME ALL BUT ONE OF THE TESTS THEY PERFORMED ON IT DETERMINED IT WAS THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT. HOWEVER, BECAUSE ONE DID NOT, THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR WHICH WAS COVERED BY A RECENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. TOYOTA TOLD ME I WOULD JUST HAVE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL IT BREAKS DOWN AGAIN. AND "HOPEFULLY NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO YOU" PER THE SERVICE MANAGER. I HOPE THIS CAR DOES NOT STOP ACCELERATING IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION (IE. CROSSING LANES OF TRAFFIC OR ON A BLIND CORNER ON A TWO LANE STREET AT NIGHT). I AM WIDOWED WITH THREE KIDS AND NO OTHER FAMILY AND I FEEL TOYOTA HAS NO CONCERN FOR OUR SAFETY, MUCH LESS THEIR INTEGRITY.

I THINK MY 2005 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED IS A BIG FAT LEMON! AND I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT!

Sequoia

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

Not only would Sequoia not accelerate (only happened a few times), it has always jumped when coming to a complete stop. What I mean is that if I come to a hard stop, keep foot on brake, car jumps forward. This is ongoing. Why is the 2005 model not part of the recall. I have heard on the news the same complaint but outside the years recalled. What can I do?
