severe rust on all heavy metal components-frame/suspension
Simply put the frame and suspension components are not properly treated. Most who own the tundra, sequoia, Tacoma know of the issues. This is my wifes care and has spent most of its life in the garage-except the last 3 years when I replaced the car with another. We live in a state that uses road salt. This Toyota was only driven locally in one snow and had minimal salt expsosure. It was cleaned prior to putting back in garage. I do my own maintaninance and repairs. This Toyota is full of rust on everything from frame to rear axle. The frame is very bad on drivers side especially. Most rust that occurs from salt will damage the passenger side-this is because the passenger side gets more salt exposure since roads are sloped toward the shoulders or passenger side. I do snow removal and know how to maintain and clean vehicles. I had a 1996 ford 250 and most know they rust out over rear wheels. When I sold the truck in 2010 it had no rust on any body component. I did have to replace brakes lines, transmission lines, oil pan mostly components up near engine. So taking care of the Toyota is not much more. Im disappointed in the car and have warned multiple people of this problem. Ive spoken to over a hundred or more Toyota owners about this. Whenever I see one of the above Toyota owners I will take time to let them know. I even have warned people buying new toyotas of the issues. We have an air bag recall now and will be addressing that soon. My wife also drives a rav4 and this is all year long. It gets a lot of salty road driving and has over 160k on it. I have seen no major rust on this little car As a matter of fact, with me being a car person, this car look like it came from arizona. Ive taken over the Toyota to drive and hope for Toyotas reputation this frame does not give out on me. I cant afford to let go of the sequoia as it only has 70k. Ive ventured to trade in on another car. Was given a ridiculous offer-when questioned the sales people said they will only auction this due to rust. I know this report is not going to give me a new frame. In my mind Toyota has already lost enough sales with my word alone. So in short Ive given myself the satisfaction of resolution. I will continue to do so for years to come warn others about this. Since I buy our cars in our household, I will never buy another Toyota framed vehicle. I will consider unibody with them but no steel frame. I will keep an eye on this sequoia and if I have to make repair, will do so what I need to do. My sisters sequoia, 2002 was taken care of under this frame recall and her frame was not even close to what ours is? wow is all I can say. In short, its not just Toyota, as all auto manufacturers are trying to cheapen a product. Chevy/GM has always had major rust issues and probably will continue. Its when they become unsafe that a manufacturer should step up to plate.
