This problem only occurs in warm weather. When there is a passenger in the front seat, the seat belt light stays flashing continuously even though the seat belt is properly worn and buckled. If you pull the belt all the way out, the light usually goes off, but only until you let the belt retract again. Since we can't drive with the belt pulled all the way out, we have to just ignore the light.
I can't remember exactly when this problem started, but it has been happening for years. Must have been after the warranty expired or I would have had it fixed. I have read that for 1998-2001 Siennas, Toyota used a seat-belt sensor located in the retractor, instead of in the buckle like most vehicles (and which they switched to after that). Numerous people have reported this same problem (and also with the driver's belt warning light) elsewhere on the Web.

Nothing too crazy. The light was a little bit annoying thats all. All i did to fix it was took off the cover for the seat belt and unhooked the contact. Make sure you know what you are doing in regards to make sure you don't unhook the airbag sensor thats also under there.
