problem #2

Jun 042009

Sienna CE 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

Driver's side window would go down with no problem, but would stop moving and go silent about halfway back up. Waiting for a few minutes allowed it to move a few inches further, which suggests the problem was with a capacitor in the window motor.

Initially the stop-and-wait strategy was only needed once to get the window closed, so it could be lived with, but during the next year it gradually got worse, until it was so bad that it would only move about 1/2" each time. That's when we got it fixed. Our Toyota dealer quoted us $400. A local mechanic did it for $300.

Sienna LE

The power driver side window goes down, but it does not go back up. If you let it rest 30 seconds or so it goes up a couple of more inches. The mechanic I checked with is average one a week, so this is a fairly common problem. It is also not exactly cheap to fix. It is around $500.
