Automatic sliding door began popping when closing. It seemed to be a door alignment issue, as it was hitting the rear quarter panel. Eventually it popped into the closed position and never opened again.
We dismantled everything we could inside and fiddled with things. Eventually we removed the motor and cables which allowed us to align the door enough to get it to unlatch.
At this point we are looking for ways to convert the door to a manual operation.
We have ALWAYS been strong supporters of Toyota! Even getting into heated arguments with people about their quality. This problem has gone unaddressed by Toyota and its quite disappointing. The dealership told us it would cost about $1,000 dollars to look at it. Then they told us to take it to a body shop. Effectively washing their hands of it!
Shame on you Toyota! Atleast offer to convert these automatic doors to manual doors for your very loyal customers!

In a quick internet search this seems to be a very common problem and my dealer confirmed it is a common problem. Toyota wants $1700+ to replace the door motor. If there are a rash of people with the identical problem the item must be defective. Step up and do the right thing Toyota

We had the automatic door fixed on our toyota sienna in December, 2010. The repair cost us $600 dollars to repair at Jeff Hunter Toyota in Waco. In March, 2011, the part they replaced malfunctioned, caused the automatic door to jam, and broke two cables. They refused to repair the part and the damage it caused. They blamed a "bolt" on the door that supposedly had caused the whole problem. The repair price they quoted me was $3,800! Hard to believe, but absolutely true. This was a very expensive van that they were happy to sell me. They were happy to have me pay to repair it. But when one of their repairs went bad, they would not stand behind their work.
I'll never go to Jeff Hunter Toyota in Waco again, and I imagine I will not purchase a toyota again, either. (Their complaint resolution service was almost as incompetent and insulting as Jeff Hunter Toyota's service manager).

Can't pull it loose due to handicap. Door hangs when it opens and won't come closed after, it has to be forced
Update from Aug 27, 2015: Jerked closed after you get outside of the vehicle to close the door.
