As a result of the transmission cooler being a part of the radiator system, the transmission cooler ruptured while driving causing immediate loss of power and the engine to overheat. This malfunction also caused coolant and transmission oil to contaminate the engine compartment as well as the transmission. This is a major iengineering flaw and safety issue as I was on the interstate when it happened and was stranded on the side of the highway until help could be obtained.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while stopped at traffic light, the vehicle stalled with the brake pedal depressed. Several warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact shifted the vehicle into neutral and coasted into a driveway. A mechanic arrived on scene and replaced an oil hose. After the hose was replaced, the contact heard an abnormal knocking noise in the engine. The contact took the vehicle to several independent mechanics and was informed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The contact had the vehicle towed to Suburban Toyota of farmington hills (25000 haggerty rd, farmington hills, mi 48335) who confirmed there was an engine failure. The contact then had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where the engine was replaced. After the engine replacement, the contact experienced several transmission issues. The contact stated that while at a stop, the vehicle independently shifted in and out of gear without warning. Also, while in reverse, the vehicle coasted and jerked upon slight depression of the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 126,300.

Driving 55mph on frwy, van started smoking in the rear and oil on back of van. Slowly drove short distance home and lights on dash came on upon arriving home. Oil leaked on street where we parked. We've already had it towed and fixed twice. We're recovering from near death/covid afraid to drive it since we can't trust it. Based on internet stories by others with same problem, & svc mgr at Toyota opinion, fear is warranted. Our van was repaired 2X w/ same type of inferior hose put on van when built by a mechanic not at Toyota. None of us realized inferior part was the problem.now we need to repair it again with a "kit" that Toyota specifically made because this is known problem after we spent many 100S of $S repairing it using same type part when built. Wouldn't fix it when I called in 2015. It had to break 1st per Toyota when I checked on it in 2015 when got notice.Toyota should repair it at no cost & reimburse me for the expenses I've already had. My husband had covid and almost died and it happened the day after he was released from a month long covid hospital stay and again when I was taking him to therapy for covid 3 wks later. As I was driving the van, I noticed a smell like burning rubber, although all gauges were normal and no check engine light was on. Since I was close to home, I pulled into the garage and noticed smoke coming from under the hood and a trail of oil on the drive way. Within a few minutes, there was a large puddle of oil under the vehicle as well. I had it towed to the mechanic and was told the oil cooler hose had broken. The mechanic said if I had driven it to the shop, I likely would have ruined the engine because the oil loss was so significant (out of 5 quarts, only.25 was remaining). The mechanic also said that Toyota was aware of this issue but did not issue a recall, even though the replacement hoses are now steel and not rubber. This is a safety issue as the engine could have seized up while running (due to the quick loss of oil) causing potentially serious accident and injury.

Dealer replaced parts as repair with a complete redesigned part removing rubber hosed all together. This was not a recall but owners expense. Manufacturer never notified owner of this defective part or event possibility.

Failure can be catastrophic for engine as oil is discharged quickly and with no warning or indication. Vehicle was in motion on a highway when odor and noise made me stop and check. I was driving back from this weekend on a highway and I noticed a thumping noise coming from the front of the vehicle and then I noticed an engine light came on and instinctively I knew that was a bad sign for all six of us my family and friends. Oil cooler pressure hose explode while driving with my kids back from the church oil were leaking all over the street the car was smoking in front drivers were honking and scream your car is on fire and a nasty smoke where coming out of it. I was told today that my cooler hose ruptured and I had to take it immediately to a auto repair shop. I was driving to work and the car started making a clicking noise and felt weird to drive. I got to work and was told to check the dip stick. Was told it sounded like I had no oil. I was thinking, that wouldn't be right I just got an oil change about a week earlier. It was bare. Completely empty. I then proceeded to get it to a repair shop as it was an emergency. The auto place told me that it needed a kit that they would have to buy to replace the cooler hose and would take awhile to fix this. It would be the only way to fix this. And they cant guarantee me the engine didnt get effected by this situation. I did my research on this issue and it is extremely dangerous and expensive. I am now out $500 and half a day at work. I was driving to work at 7:15am on highway 44 going about 45-55 miles an hour. It was terrifying and once I got to my work and realized that my van could have stopped on me in the middle of traffic whenever it wanted to this morning or the engine could have blown up and cause a real accident. This is a serious danger to me and people around me. I had no clue I was in danger, I had no idea that my van was messed up. There were no signs, no problems, no anything. It just out of nowhere drained the oil. I drive 35-45 miles to work. I wish I would have known about a "recall" on this. I wouldn't have had it checked way before.

Toyota Sienna 07 to 13 has oil cooler hose leakage problem, cause it made of rubber and aluminum, rubber part of this cause leakage, because engine oil goes from it with pressure and after some time rubber part goes bad and start leaking when you start the van it comes out, it happens with me twice, first my 07 Sienna has happens I buy a used pipe from junk yard and fix it, after fifteen twenty days it happens again, all of a sudden on a free way my van heat up in left lane and stop engine, I almost got killed for this sudden stop, van has no oil left in engine and it heats up, I pull my van asside and find out that engine oil cooler pipe is off the hook and I am out of engine oil, how I come back its a different story, but when I call Toyota dealer ship for recall they told me this is not a safety reason so L have to fix it myself, my question is that for there cheap material pipes I can got killed, my engine can go bad, but this is not a safety issue for them, can some one help me.

Driving car in town for about 10 minutes. Stopped at friends house and noticed when I backed out a large oil puddle. Got out and looked under car to see undercarriage covered in oil from front of car to midway down car. Could not tell where it was coming from so I called tow truck to take to Toyota dealership. They found small hole in oil cooler line was spraying oil out. It was half empty of all its oil in that short amount of time. The dealership told me it was going to cost me $360 to replace oil cooler lines. I was very lucky I had not driven very far or probably would have been catastrophic engine failure. After quick check on internet, this appears to be a common issue with oil supply lines in this and other model years. Also looks like there is a new all metal oil supply line and a warranty extension (ZE2), neither of which I was made aware of by my dealership and was very difficult for me to find.

The oil pump assembly failed. It was partially made with a rubber hose that did not perform as it should. It needed to be replaced with a solid metal part. Although there was a safety/service bulletin listed by Toyota on this part it cost almost $1200 to repair.
