When my car was in the shop for another problem (see the suspension coil spring complaint), the dealer's mechanic called to let me know that there was a leak on the power steering rack fluid seal. Evidently, this was another commonly occurring problem - enough for Toyota to issue a Technical Service Bulletin (T-SB-0030-14), advising replacement of the gasket seal kit.
I would expect a recall to have been issued, given that the TSB clearly identifies the problem, and specifically points to the problem occurring on the passenger side of the steering rack.
Why I have to dish out that kind of money for an obvious manufacturing defect is incomprehensible. I'm out a total of $1300 over the past week for problems that are clearly evidence of Toyota's lack of quality control.
