Hardly changed from 2 to 3 speed. Mechanic says needed change solenoid, but after that he suggested replacing the whole transmission.

Seriously, I thought Toyotas were reliable, dependable...apparently NOT!!! I only have 83K miles on this van. The car never gave any indication of hard shifting but then it downshifted hard into 2nd gear and that's where it stayed. It only drove 15-20 mph so I took it to the dealer where I was told that the transmission had an "internal failure" and that it'll cost $3900 to replace...OMG, what a joke. I'll never buy another Toyota again and I've owned a lot over the last 20 years.
