We purchased a 7 passenger Toyota Sienna in 2011. We still have a loan on this vehicle. In or about the summer of 2016, we received a recall notice from Toyota with the address and phone number listed above. Among other information, it states "until the remedy becomes available we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat." In the faq, it stated, that Toyota will provide a loaner vehicle for those customers with vehicles currently under recall. In another portion of the letter, it states that ca is in zone 1 and that our vehicle is in zone a of the recall, the most dangerous area with respect to the safety of the recall. When we contacted Toyota for a loaner vehicle, they offered a 5 passenger Toyota Camry. They also stated we could have a 7 passenger Sienna if we paid an additional $500 a month. We told them this was unacceptable as we purchased (and are still paying Toyota for) a 7 passenger vehicle. We escalated this numerous times including to the BBB at which time they suddenly said this was a Texas company and that they would not be offering any additional remedy. We would like a replacement vehicle at no extra charge. Please note that there is no timeline for the recall so they are saying indefinitely that we cannot use the car as they sold it to us.

"takata recall" received letter from Toyota on 7/25/16 that we had takata recall. We knew from checking Toyota recall long before the letter that our car had a recall the takata airbags but not the seriousness of recall. Letter indicated the following: We are in zone a(high humidity- temperatures) degrades propellant which can cause inflator to rupture during air bag deployment. Metal fragments could pass through the airbag striking vehicle occupants and results in serious injury or death. Toyota says we should do this: Do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in front passenger seat. When you have only one car this is unexceptable.........when they say this can cause death to front seat passenger what make them think that the driver may not also get impacted and cause another issue. Also what impact does this have on your car and medical insurance.

"takata recall" ' we received notice that our 2011 Toyota Sienna was subject to recall in July 2016. The notice told us we should not have anybody ride in the front passenger seat. We are a family of 6 and this is a highly impractical restriction. I contacted Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 on July 20, 2016 and talked with Toyota rep aaron to get information about replacing our passenger airbag. Later that day or the next, my husband spoke to Toyota rep christina C at extension 73868. She refused to tell him her last name. She told us our file number was 1607202114. Christina suggested orally it was safe to ride in the passenger seat, but refused to say so in writing. Neither aaron nor christina could tell us when our airbag would be fixed, and both said they would have a supervisor call us. In both cases a supervisor did not call us. Christina offered a loaner vehicle, but it would be a small compact car, which could not Transport our family. We spent the last 2+ months not using the front passenger seat of our vehicle. I called again on September 30, 2016 and spoke with Toyota reps bertha and syreeta. Since the car is now six years old and has been in hot and humid South Carolina, and therefore now likely subject to material deterioration, we demanded Toyota install a replacement airbag right away. Toyota refused to address the problem at this time. Again, I was told I could surrender our van and get a loaner car that could not fit my family of 6. this recall has been since may of 2016. As of September 30, 2016, Toyota has no idea when this situation will be remedied. This is unacceptable. Toyota should promptly repair our vehicle or in the alternative provide a comparable substitute vehicle while they sort things out. We should not be exposed to further danger while Toyota figures out the absolute cheapest way to obtain airbags from takata.

Takata recall. We have been burdened with the following warning from Toyota motor sales, usa, Inc.: "until the remedy becomes available, we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat." My case #1607183206 is on file at Toyota motor sales usa. I have attempted to "trade my 2011 Sienna" for a 2016 Sienna at our local mack haik dealership (league city, tx) however the dealership only offered me $11,000 for my Sienna with less than 59,000 miles and in very good condition. (I would estimate my vehicle to be devalued by about $5,000 due to the air bag recall.) the offered trade in value offered and the dangerous condition of driving with a passenger in front seat of our van has placed us in an unfair position as Toyota owners. A position that we are not responsible for and one that should be remedied asap. I have waited patiently (since July!), but I have recently sent letters of complaint explaining this to the dealership, to mack haik administrative offices, and to Toyota motor sales usa. My letters were dated September 9, 2016 and I have had no replies from either entities. I have been in contact with the dealership in league city as recently as 9/27/16 and I have not gotten any guarantee of when the air bag defect will by fixed. I have offered to trade my 2015 Sienna to the dealership, but want a fair market value (as if the air bag condition was repaired) for a 2016 model just for the opportunity to use my Sienna as it was intended, I.e. allowing a passenger in the front seat. I am convinced the "consumer" in this takata recall has been placed in an unfair position and a remedy needs to be realized soon. I appeal to your organization to assist in mediating the problem and making our situation whole again.
