We couldn't figure out how the passenger side dash all of a sudden had this huge crack in it when it is garage kept and we've only put 25,000 miles on our car in ten years. It's just how everyone else has described their dash that's cracked. I don't see this as a coincidence and Toyota obviously has a problem.

The cracks look so bad that I was asked who was kicking your dash board.

I have spoken to a woman in same town as me who has same year and color car as me in a convertible, and has always had it garaged and has cracked dash all over......same as me. I have a garage and park in shade, don't leave top down to bake in the sun, and I use a sun shade screen inside my front windshield if out shopping with no shady parking spots. I love my car but this is annoying and ruins the beauty of this beautiful car. Toyota needs to repair these dashboards.

Cracks began appearing in late 2014, have steadily progressed across the entire padded dash and recently to the driver's side. All cracks grow in length and number. My car has been immaculately cared for and garaged daily. This is clearly a manufacturer's problem and, from what I've read here and elsewhere affect MILLIONS of Toyotas and Lexus cars. I called Toyota's USA HQ and supplied my VIN. They told me that my car was manufactured in Canada and therefore did not qualify. I researched the VIN coding online and identified the plant code as 'U' which is Georgetown, KY in the USA! Then I found the ID plate on the drivers door jamb that clearly stated Made in the USA in Kentucky and the date was April 04. I don't like being lied to! I will not let this go. I have all of the 'Warranty Enhancement information that proves my car is covered. Time for a major Class Action Lawsuit if only because of Toyota's LIES.

Many cracks all over the dash, including on the sides of the dash, where the sun never hits. Very annoying and Toyota wont do anything about it.
Update from Jul 11, 2016: Thanks Greg S. Took my Solara to the dealer for them to photograph the dash. They said I should hear something back in 30-60 days. Funny that they were aware of the ZE6 extended warranty on the dash. Thank you !!

I love my car,but when the dash started cracking I could not be leave it this car only has 68000 thousand miles I keep it in a garage all the time. How can this happen.? I think Toyota should be responsible and replace it. My car looks like crap. I can't afforded to get it fixed and can't afford a new car.

I have never owned a car that the dashboard didn't last! Constant reminder of the poor workmanship/materials from Toyota!
- James F P., Lynnwood, WA, US
Very poor craftsmanship and cheap materials. The dashboard looks like a road map with a sticky film. I contacted local dealer which informed me that my 2004 does not have any recalls on it. This is a cross the board problem which should not fall under a pick and choose which model is going to get assistance. We buy our products based on research, reputation, and other factors. Why are we the consumers getting penalized for bad decisions made by upper management who probably trimmed the fat to line their pockets with. Now we are left with an estimated repair or replacement bill for $2,000. Who is say how long this one will last....... My car sits in a well ventilated storage and is babied. It now has the appearance of someone who has been going to a tanning salon for decades. That's ok money grows on trees and we as consumers can just go pick more...... NOT!!!! Never again will I buy a Toyota, because they do not back their product.......customer satisfaction is not in their vocabulary. It has become the Yugo of the car world. One angry soon no longer to be a Toyota owner...

We are really angry with Toyota. We went to the dealer numerous times and they kept telling us that our car must have been parked in sun and that there was nothing that Toyota could do for us. Our car is always in the garage and even when we drive we always look to park under trees. The dashboard is so disgusting that I am embarrassed to give anyone a ride. The dashboard literately looks like a puzzle. It is cracked from the right across to the left. There is not one area where it is not cracked. It even feels soft and sticky to the touch. I am still hoping that Toyota can at least replace the dashboard. Can someone please give us an answer!!!!!!!!

I purchased this 2004 Toyota Solara in September 2003 on a whim... It looked futuristic and much more expensive than the Corolla / Corolla Matrix I had originally come in for. This car was the envy of my friends and coworkers and I loved driving it till one day, a tiny crack formed on the binnacle right above the gauge cluster. Within 6 months the cracks appeared and made my car look like an 84 instead of an 04 from Arizona.
The car was garaged for 75% of the time and seemed to get worse once the car was no longer garaged. Shame on Toyota for cutting corners in materials and craftsmanship. My 1993 Camry XLE in tuxedo black was never garaged but the dash looked like brand new until the day I sold it. Toyota you need to admit the problem and offer us owners some compensation for driving an embarrassment on wheels.

I am very disappointed that my dashboard looks this bad, my car Solara looks great on the outside, but the inside is awful. I have low mileage on this car, less than 90K and I bought it in 2003...but looking at the interior you would think I left it out in the sun in the middle of the desert for 30 years!! I bought this car and expected to drive it for years but I am too embarrassed to let anyone ride with me in this vehicle anymore.
Toyota needs to step up and admit there is an issue, whether it is a design issue, product issue, etc. With the internet, I will make it my mission to post these photos and tell everyone I can reach about Toyota's lack of ownership to correct the obvious defects in their product!

MY ---- DASH LOOKS LIKE SH*T. IT IS UN-CLEANABLE, LOOKS SO BAD THAT I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO RIDE IN IT.
- tdiana, Blue, Springs, US
Poor workmanship as there are cracks appearing on the dashboard and glovebox area.

Same disgusting cracked dashboard on my 2004 Toyota Solara SE as thousands of others have reported. This was a beautiful car, seemingly a great deal for me, from my neighborhood used car dealer. Bought it in 2008. Approx 3 months after purchase, and it was still SO cherry, a small crack appeared from A/C panel to gauge cluster. From that day forward, it seemed to worsen from minute to minute. If I had been able to stay in the car and stare at it, it probably would have happened before my eyes...that is how fast it progressed. It was scary how fast this gorgeous car was ruined, despite all of the care taken. The dealer was not a Toyota franchise, so they said they could do nothing for me, Toyota, as everyone knows, refused to consider it anything to do with them. Beside the unsightly ruin of the interior of the car, you can see by the picture I included of the glove box and passenger side of dash, that this is a safety issue as well. This is the cover of the air bag. Would you like THAT coming at you on top of the air bag? Would it cut the bag, making it useless? Would it cut your neck or face? How deep do the cracks go? Will it affect the air bag's deployment in the time of need?
Sure we can cover it up with a dash cover and hide most of the ugliness. But what about the reduced value of cars we bought in good faith?
Auto manufacturers have taken care of cosmetic defects less severe than this in the past. Why are we being ignored? While this is a big ticket fix for us, the consumer, it probably isn't very much at all for them to take care of. What about a credit at trade in if we use a Toyota dealer? Something could easily be done for all these loyal Toyota families if only someone at the company would just step up.

Same complaint as others. The car has been garaged and has a dash sun visor in place every day while at work. All of a sudden the dash cracked next to the glove compartment. (The car only has 58,000 miles on it!) I took it in and the dealer said it's my very expensive problem, about $1200 just for the part! The entire dash has to be replaced. I'm not paying it! No more Toyota's for this gal if Toyota doesn't change its policy not to fix it! This is obviously a manufacturer's defect!
- Cheryl T., San Diego, CA, US
I called the dealership and it costs $1400.00 for a new dash and that does not include labor. A dashboard cover has not been molded yet. And all of the repair kits on the market have failed to make it look right. I love this car but that cracked dash is driving me crazy. I cannot justify putting that kind of money into a cosmetic issue.Toyota should really stand behind this problem.

Cracks in dashboard in two places on passenger side. They are ugly and reduce the resale value of an otherwise beautiful car. There is one vertical crack about 3 inches long and one horizontal crack just above glove compartment running the entire length of glove compartment. After researching online, I see that many Toyota Solara, Sienna and Avalon owners are complaining of same problem with cracks in dashboard. It seems to be mainly the 2004 models, but same complaint with 2005, 2006, 2007 models.
Obviously, problem is in the vinyl material of dashboard and it seems to me that since I'm not seeing newer model owners complaining about this issue, possibly Toyota figured out the problem existed and changed suppliers or materials for dashboard. I feel like Toyota owes it to loyal Toyota owners to replace the cracked dashboards since it seems to be a trend in the '04 - '07 Solara, Sienna, Avalon. This is my 2nd Toyota - 1st was a brand new '95 Camry Coupe which I kept for 10 yrs and 120K miles and traded it in for the '04 Solara SLE which now has 112K miles. Mechanically, both cars have been great and the interior of the '95 Camry Coupe was in perfect shape when I traded it in for the '04 Solara.

This roadmap defect in Toyota's dashboards is showing up all over the internet for various model cars.....I've NEVER had a problem like this on a car, excellent condition and covered parking for vehicle. Could this affect the airbag as well? It's embarrassing, but disappointing if Toyota doesn't stand behind this defect.
- sharonfl, Tierra Verde, FL, US
We brought this vehicle for our daughter to travel back and forth to school. After buying the car, I noticed the dash had a large crack near the passenger airbag and I'm afraid it could affect its operation. I'm sure it's going to cost too much so it's going to stay like this for now.

This car is a pristine (except for one scratch and rock chips) garage queen, freeway cruiser. Polished and waxed, it's a pampered vehicle, fully maintained. A month ago the dash showed a small crack low down near radio, then a matching crack appeared on the opposite side. Then another higher up, then yet another. I became concerned and went online. Oh dear. As with so many others the dash now started to get sticky and shiny and in the sun you can't see because of the reflected glare. At night it's even worse, all you see is glare, a definite safety hazard.
I bought the car 3 years old in 2007 and as a second owner I never received any TSBs or Recall Notices even though I had it serviced, timing bely etc. at the local Toyota stealership. When Toyota was finally forced to extend the warranty it only extended it for 10 years so apparently I am screwed. Toyota wants $2700 to replace the dashboard. This problem affects a long long list of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, some of which I listed below.
Lexus ES 350 2007–2008 GX 470 2003 –2008 IS 250 2006–2008 IS 350 2006–2008 LS 460 2007 RX 330 2004–2006 RX 350 2007–2009 RX 400h 2005–2008 Toyota 4Runner 2003–2005 Avalon 2005–2010 Camry 2007–2011 Camry Hybrid 2007–2011 Sienna 2004–2010 Solara 2004–2008
