Solara XLE 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 107,000 miles

Noticed about 5 or 6 months ago that the dashboard was sticky, gummy and nothing I did would remove the residue. Also noticed 2 cracks in the dashboard. I'm the original owner and this car has been babied, parked inside a closed garage when not being driven. There's no reason I should be experiencing these types of problems unless Toyota used sub-par products during manufacturing, which I now know is the case.

Solara SE 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 77,000 miles

I bought a 2005 Toyota Solara with 77000 miles, one owner in mint shape, well maintained in April 2016. After buying I noticed that the dash above the glove box was cracked. I looked on this web site and saw that many other people had the same problem. With some research i found out that numerous models had this type of problem and Toyota was willing to replace at no charge.

I figured they would give me a problem as I was the 2nd owner, but Toyota took my claim and said it will take 6 months to get the part. I brought my car into Milford CT Toyota dealer in early January 2017. Yesterday they called and said the would replace my full dash on Feb. 2 2017.

At first I called Toyota National Headquarters and they gave me a claim number. This made it easier when I went to the Toyota dealer as I had proof I was in the system.

Toyota is doing the replacement on dash until May 31 2017, so contact Toyota National to see if your car is on the list.

I will come back next week to tell you how the do and if they complete what they agreed too.

Update from Mar 1, 2017: I am writing a month later after the NEW DASH was replaced in my 2005 Solara. Replacement took one day. Service did a good job explaining the process and replacing, My interior is black and i was a little surprised that the new dash is a few shades lighter like a dark charcoal. I am not complaining as the cracks above the glove compartment have been replaced. So ANYONE withthis PROBLEM you have Until MAY 31 st to contact TOYOTA to participate in this program...........I hope this was helpful...........TRD

Solara SLE V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Dashboard cracking problems began a few months ago. Car has been kept in meticulous condition for its year and local. 3 cracks appeared without 3 months. Use 303 Aerospace Conditioner. This has happened to TOO MANY Toyota cars, especially the Solara. Toyota SHOULD be paying attention and offer to fix or replace these dashes. This problem adds to the devaluation of each vehicle. Anyone know of any class-action suits going on or being established?

My convertible is garaged and kept under cover when out of the garage. Last summer cracks in the dash began appearing and have totally ruined the appearance of the car. I have kept this and other cars in perfect condition over the years and never have I had this happen before. The dash cover is becoming sticky and despite vinyl conditioners is continuing to crack. This is unacceptable.
