After 3 years of rough and unpredictable shifts, my 2008 Toyota Solara transmission died about 360 miles from home (at around 30,000 miles). I was driving home from a long vacation. It limped into a dealer, whose service department was closed on a Sunday. The dealership called me the next day and told me the transmission was shot.
It took two weeks for Toyota to obtain a "newly rebuilt" transmission under the terms of the drivetrain warranty. I paid a deductible of $100.00. Toyota did NOT pay for the rental car I had to have for the 2 weeks, nor did they pay for the airplane ticket I had to buy to go back and get the car. The replacement transmission shifts just as roughly as the original, but it has lasted 9 years.
