T100 4WD 6-cyl

  • 120,000 miles
I have a 1996 Toyota T100 that I bought from a local Toyota dealership wit 95,000 miles. Now at 135,000 miles, the frame is dangerously rusted. I took it to the dealership where I purchased it, and was told by the service manager to"prepare it for burial" this vehicle still runs fine, and I can't afford to buy another and simply junk this one there has been a recall and generous buyback on Tacoma of the same years for the same problem, and I just found out they are doing the same on some later model Tundra why has there been no similar action on T100S.

T100 4WD

  • miles
I own a 1996 Toyota T100 4WD truck. The truck has 130K miles and runs excellent and has very little body rust. However, it will not pass inspection because of extensive frame corrosion and extreme corrosion to the lower control arms and cab mounts in the form of rust. There are numerous holes in the frame and lower control arms and the rust chips fall off in large chunks.

The contact owns a 1996 Toyota T100. While changing the oil, the contact noticed that the frame was rusting underneath the vehicle, as well as the rear spring shackles. The manufacturer was unable to assist. The contact feels that the vehicle will crack in half if it is not repaired. The current mileage was 183,000 and failure mileage was 170,000.

I am aware of a problem Toyota had with the Tacoma model years 1995 through 2000 with weak frames. My question is could the T100 be affected as well" I have a 1996 T100 which recently had a rear body mount disintegrate. As my mechanic was fixing the problem, he was grasping the frame and actually put a 3" to 4" hole in the frame with just his fingers. He had to weld a patch over the hole and commented that for only 12 years old, the frame looked terrible. He did not want to try any other parts of the frame for fear that he would cause more holes. I was wondering if this was happening to other owners of T100S in the same time frame as the Tacoma recall. Could this frame fail while driving causing a potential accident"

Sudden break in clutch support bracket. Caused vehicle to suddenly move without ability to control. The breakage of this bracket was caused by a design defect, and not by use or lack of maintainance. Dealer's service manager admitted that this bracket never should have broken. Have detailed photos and the original broken part. The new part has been redesigned, but dealer says manufacturer has told them nothing about any ongoing problems.
