Bought my Tacoma in 2012. Years later, a friend mentioned about the frame recall, so in 2017 I called Competition Toyota in London, Ont. They told me that that recall has ended, and I asked how does a recall end. But they did mention that there was a rear leaf spring recall due to cracked leaf spring, so on June 5, 2017 I got leaf springs replaced under recall. The job took longer than normal due to bad rust... so some time in June 2018, I got a letter stating there is a recall for 2005 to 2010 Tacoma. I did not realize you only had a one year window to have truck inspected, but on June 20, 2018 I made an appointment to get checked.
I had to cancel the appointment because my wife's mom was very sick, so we went to Sudbury Ontario to spend time with her. We came home few weeks later, so I made another appointment for August 1, 2018. So on July 12, 2018 it was clear my wife's mom wasn't going to make it, so it was back to Sudbury Ontario on July 14, 2018 when her mom passed... So we stayed in Sudbury for three weeks to make arrangements and clean out apartment. So once again I canceled the appointment for frame recall.
Again, we got home and got busy, and put the recall on back burner. So in Dec 18, 2019 I got the truck in for recall. They said the frame is very rotted on the passenger side and there are holes. But it's not covered now due to the recall deadline having ended July 21, 2019 (l-23 and w-23). I guess the l-23 code is for a 12 year warranty enhancement program frame corrosion that expired July 21, 2019, but when I asked competition Toyota back in 2017 when I got the leaf springs done about the frame recall, they told me the wrong info or was hiding the program for the frame...
This pissed me off and the w-23 code is for the 3rd party settlement for frame that also ended July 21 2019. So now I'm screwed, and have got a pile of metal in my laneway. I missed due date and was five months late. I called Toyota Canada Inc. - they said too bad, they weren't gonna do s*** about it. To park my truck, and find another mode on transportation if truck is unsafe, is unbelievable... so that's where I'm at now. Competition Toyota gave me the dates from their computer on appointment dates that I did have, but had to cancel... I'm not sure what to do now. If Competition Toyota followed proper procedure when they did my leaf springs, I wouldn't be in this predicament... trust me, I have a knot in my gut over this. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
