Piston slapping sound. Truck reached ~60,000 miles around 2017 and the sound started on chilly nights under 25 degrees F. Truck is at 80,000 miles now and happens on any night that the temp is below 40F.

My 2006 Tacoma has had a ticking noise since new. This noise emanates from the rear/driver's side of the engine. It's getting louder with age.
I tried using higher viscosity oil - this reduced the noise level, but the ticking was still there.
Does anyone know the source of this noise?? Or the fix??

Common piston slap issue. It only happens on cooler nights. Different oil filters don't change it. Using much thicker oil would help mask the issue.
