My airbag light came on for no apparent reason. There was a recall for other Toyota Tacoma for an air bag spiral assembly however my model was not included. I took the truck to a Toyota dealer who informed me that the cable and connections were rusty and the air bag would not function in a crash unless the assembly was replaced. I paid out of pocket to have the cable replaced.

Airbag light illuminated disabling the vehicle's airbag systems potentially causing severe injury during a collision. Dealership inspection revealed failure in the airbag spiral cable, an existing known fault recalled on other 2010 model year Tacoma by Toyota. This particular VIN was not included in the 2014 Toyota recall of 2009-2010 for spiral cable failure. Toyota currently has no plans to expand their previous recall to fix this issue on other affected vehicles.

The steering column assembly contains electrical connections to the driver's airbag module housed in a spiral cable assembly, which includes a flexible flat cable (ffc). Due to the shape and location of the ffc's retainer, the ffc could become damaged when the steering wheel is turned. While driving I noticed my horn quit working and my airbag warning came on and I know there is already a recall for the spiral cable assembly but my VIN # is not included in the recall.

I was belted in and hit a street sign then a 6 foot tall straight up and down just about sand hill and then a tree. Impact was sufficient enough to brake my back for sudden stop. The accident was May 5, 2016 and it was a drunk driving accident but that shouldn't matter as I should have been stopped by airbag instead of snapping my back.. I have had serious memory loss due to prior medical conditions. I love Toyota but I believe something went terribly wrong that night as impact should have set off driver airbag. My passengers didn't buckle up but I did and I was hurt the worse.. oh and yes I am expecting to hear from someone in your company or law firm to know if I need a lawyer or not. Thank you.. A truck pulled out in front of me at intersection rt 46 on 07/31/13. I went to beep the horn and it didn't work.I wasn't able to confirm problem because very busy till 11/04/13. Confirmed problem caused by faulty spiral cable within the steering wheel. As per conversation with Toyota 1-800-331-4331 on 11/04/13 (case #1311040283) to have dealer confirm problem with as I understood would warranty part only, problem confirmed by dealer 12/09/13, Toyota, [xxx] called declined goodwill warranty.I replaced spiral cable at my expense, horn now works. The spiral cable also contain within it wires for steering radio controls, the air bag and the horn. As bad weather approached the lack of a working horn became a huge safety issue. Toyota recalled all 05 to 09 (495,000 ) Tacoma for the same part# spiral cable ( airbag ) information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
