My original truck was a TRD. This truck was a SR5 Tacoma and they both had the same problem. I could feel the problem. On the TRD when shifting the cluch would engage at different times resulting in grinding gears and clunking drivetrain. I took it to two different Toyota dealerships and both said thats normal so I knew I was in trouble. Long story but by a miracle I was able to trade down to the SR5 thinking my problems were over, but they were just beginning. At 8000 km the clutch pedal started squeaking and you could feel the clutch vibrating and the grinding and clanging got worse. This truck went to three different dealerships no one could drive it but insisted nothing was wrong. Toyota Canada said they had a truck to drive to show me that my truck was normal, this sample truck was way worse the toyota representitive said they could change my tranny but it could end up like this sample truck. It was obvious that I didnt have a warranty. This was not new. I had the same problem with Chev and now Ford. No one knew what to do, then I heard about ARBITRATION, Arbitration in Canada is free but your going up against people that do this professionaly and the chances of winning are low. So first you go to an arbitration hearing, Its me an arbitrator and a toyota engineer you state your cases, take it for a test drive. Because I wanted a full buy back it went to a technical inspection, was found to be faulty and I was awarded 39,000 dollars. No awards just buy backs are ordered at arbitration, Its like no one has ever challenged them before, We need to challage all manufacturers I know that there are lot of tacomas with squeaky clutches and falty drivetrains just by the reaction of the service people at the different dealerships,Its up to us to complain and challenge.
