Me and my husband detailed our Toyota Tacoma for the winter season. This meant we over all cleaned and waxed the truck for the winter season coming up. We detailed the truck in late September. At or around October 23 2016 my husband noticed a small crack in the driver side headlight cover and on October 30 2016 while at work my husband noticed that there were even more cracks that had occurred in the lens and his co worker Walter noticed that the passenger side was also cracked the same way. My husband asked me to take the truck to our local dealership to find out why they were cracking. I took it to Modern Toyota of Boone NC and I talked to a service writer which informed me my husband must have hit something like maybe a bird which never happened at the most we may have hit a few bugs and butterflies but no birds have never made contact with the front of our truck.
The service writer did however pointed out that the daylight running light lens was burnt on both sides and informed me that that was covered through an enhanced warranty. While he was putting my vin # in the computer another service writer informed him that the warranty has run out. The service writer that I was dealing with did give me the 1-800 customer service # to call he informed me sometime under certain circumstances they will do a customer satisfaction courtesy. But this never happened. Even after explaining to both the service writer and customer service that i was unaware of any problems with this issue with the headlight covers. I did explain to them that the cracking of the lens was a recent thing not even a month and I didn't see how that was my problem. I am no way at fault with this issue I didn't cause the headlight covers to crack and now that I have logged on to Toyota website I can see that others are having the same problem as me.
This is a manufacturer issue. Buyers should beware of this defect and let Toyota know that this is a manufacturer failure on their part and not the consumers. Like other customers as myself spending $33,000 to $38,000 for these vehicles they should be held accountable for their failed faulty parts and should not lay on the consumers, but actually be something Toyota should take care of.
As for the headlights cracking to me it looks like stress cracks maybe the plastic is too thin to give them that glass look and here is another factor; I took into consideration we have had 4 frost mornings. Maybe as the plastic ages the lens cant hold up to the stress of the cold I'm up for any suggestions but absolutely not up to being put at blame for hitting something we know we haven't hit like birds. Here is my advise to anyone who is considering to purchase a new car of any kind. (When approached by a Sales person ask them not to be nice to you because when you purchase the new vehicle that's when all the smiles stop)

My front headlight lenses have slowly gotten more and more cracked. The cracks are actually from the inside out. If you run your finger over the glass on the outside it is smooth, but you can see a dozen long cracks. This issue is showing on both front head lamps.

The headlights on my 2011 Toyota Tacoma have cracked from the heat problem they all have with the melting of lens covers. Toyota would do nothing to help, I purchased the extended warranty. I asked if they did not think visibility was important and it should be normal for me to have to replace my light bulbs every time it rains. I am expected to pay $1,200.00 for replacement, thanks for nothing Toyota!!!!!

Headlights on both sides started cracking internally in 2015. They would pass inspection because the cracks could not be felt on outside. However, this year prior to State inspection, the cracks on both sides were all the way thru and I had to replace both headlight assemblies. I do not have the day time running lights problem of yellowing/melting. There were no road debris chips to initiate the failures. Consulted with Toyota Dealer for warranty issues and no success. Bought the lights and changed them myself as Toyota wanted $700 to correct their manufacturing defect.
