I've already gone off at Toyota too many times. They need to add the Tacoma to the already open recall on vehicles that are even much older than the Tacoma. They need to stand behind their product. No one should pay $40,000+/- for a TOYOTA and have the paint just blowing off the vehicle before it even has 36,000 miles on it. It is disgusting.

Paint peeling around window, sun roof, edges of hood.
Update from Oct 3, 2024: Update Oct2024, truck looks like it has a bad case of psoriasis. The white paint has fallen off in huge chunks all over truck, especially on hood, around sunroof, and any place the body bends. Toyota has issued a recall BUT they will only repaint doors, area above window on door, and fender. NOT ANYWHERE ELSE! Called Toyota corporate several times and got nowhere. Recall is due to faulty primer. Toyota had huge recall on the cars previously and repainted them 100%. But they are refusing to address the issue correctly and completely on the Tacoma. Although the same faulty primer was used on the entire truck, they will only repaint door and fender. So Toyota is not willing to fix their mistake properly, doesn’t care about their customer. I don’t want it anymore, I’m not driving around in an what looks like a hooptie, it try to sell it or trade in, no one’s gonna give me anything because of the paint chunking off.

Took this issue up with the dealership auto body shop. I was told by this shop person that this issue involves the 040 paint involving peeling issues that they are currently repairing. Toyota has a list of models that are currently on recall, however Tacoma is not one of them. This paint application is apparently a complete failure, no matter what model it is on. The paint blisters due to not enough coats applied around narrow edges surrounding windows, hoods, and bed frames. Sent a complaint to Toyota Corporation. No response.

Took my truck to the dealership auto body shop and was told my 040 paint was consistent with there list of recalls they were currently handling. I was informed that Tacoma was not on the recall list. The body shop said that my 040 paint should be added to recall and suggested to register a complain to Toyota Corporation. I did so, with no response. I was told that some Tacomas have been repaired by Checkered Flag Toyota in Norfolk, VA. This is the dealer I purchased my truck.

Don’t buy a white Tacoma. There are people all over the internet with the paint peeling off the white Tacoma. Toyota offered to fix other Toyota’s but not the Tacoma. Looking to get enough people to sign up to start a lawsuit or a recall.

My dealer told me that they do not seal the Vehicles Paint at Delivery. Its a black vehicle without Paint/Clear Coat protection!! I have seen many issues happening with Paint after only one summer!!

Toyota painted the passenger rear door in 2020 under their "Goodwill" program. I told them to check it over carefully and asked if more areas started to peel if they would cover that. I was told by the Service Manager at Steven's Toyota in Harrisonburg, VA that if more areas started to peel later, he would need to submit another request. Three weeks after the rear door was painted, I was hand washing the truck and noticed the roof peeling above the windshield, the inside of the front fender in the engine compartment peeling and the driver side door. I went to Steven's Toyota, pointed all these area's' out to the Service Mgr. and asked why they had not looked the vehicle over better as they knew where to look, I didn't. He contacted his regional Mgr (or so he said) who refused to paint these new areas saying they only offered ONE time under the "Goodwill" program. Some Goodwill! That is not what the Service Mgr told me to begin with.
Now he instructed me to call Toyota directly and "blow up their phone" with complaints and I might get help. After 4 or 5 corporate calls that lasted 40 to 60 minutes, each time having to go over the same dates, mileage, story etc, only to be told the Tacoma was not added to the recall and to keep an eye on the recalls. Basically, they just kept wasting my time and blowing me off. I put posters in all my windows "Peeling Paint" "Thank you Toyota" along with a pic of a lemon and drove the truck around. At one point, parking it in their lot. This did not help either. I will never buy another Toyota due to their refusal to stand behind their products (when they are recalling other white vehicles for peeling paint back to like 2008). Toyota should be ashamed. AT this point in time the rear passenger door is all peeling as well. The entire truck will probably need to be painted and it only has 52,000 miles on it. I have taken very good care of this truck. Thank you Toyota! Now wonder all 3 of my kids bought Hyundai's!!!! I will too next time around.
