December 2015 I bought a Toyota SR5 4X4 V6 Double Cab Long bed. I took it on a few camping fire roads and such for the first year or so of ownership, but never really in any mud or harsh conditions. Around the 1st of July 2017 I got my truck off road in some mud. After washing my truck I noticed that it had developed a very bad squeaking when going over small bumps, getting in/out of the vehicle, accelerating, etc. It is horribly embarrassing and very annoying. I took it to my local Toyota dealer "Toyota of Cleveland" and they claimed that "this is just the way Toyotas are" and that Toyota Corporate would do nothing to fix it. They said they usually spray some silicone spray on the leaf springs to quiet them. So they did, but it did little to nothing. A week or so later I took my truck to the dealer where I bought it "Toyota of Knoxville, TN" and reported the same issue. They "cleaned" the leaf springs and quieted the squeak, but on the drive back home the squeak came back. I called Toyota corporate and they offered to log my complaint, but offered nothing in the way of a correction nor did they offer to extend my warranty for that issue. Next I wrote Toyota corporate and they essentially told me the same thing and reminded me that "you know our position". I was (and am) extremely angry that Toyota seems unwilling to address this issue. Today I took my truck back to Toyota of Cleveland and they told me that they couldn't do anything about the squeaking, but that "Toyota knows about the issue and is working on a recall". My truck still squeaks, but I am hopeful that Toyota is really working on something. My warranty runs out in 50 miles. :-(

Rear end (leaf springs) squeaky, creaky, and extremely loud when I'm driving and when I come to a stop; when I get out of the car.
I first took the truck to Tom Scott Toyota to have a scheduled oil change. I told them about my concerns and they replaced the driver's side strut during another visit. Not 24 hours later it was making the noise, only MUCH WORSE. I took the truck back in again (a two hour round trip.) They service manager felt the leaf spring bushings were dirty from the dirt roads and needed pressure washing. They pressure washed the leaf springs but they started squeaking again not 30 minutes later.
I understand Toyota Corporate has acknowledged this is an issue on 2016 Tacoma, but they do not yet have a solution. Dealer said there is a recall and they would call me when replacement leaf springs were available since there is a backorder. They did try to pressure wash the leaf springs again, but the leaf springs were already squeaking again by the time I got home.
I saw on another complaint for this same issue that Toyota Corporate told the dealers specifically NOT to oil or grease the leaf springs as this will attract more dust and dirt, and make the problem worse. It appears Toyota still does not know what the issue is but this is very annoying for a brand new $40,000+ truck.

rear end (leaf springs) squeaky creaky noisy
I first took the truck to Camelback Toyota to have the oil changed. They said the leaf spring bushings were dirty from offroading, needed grease and pressure washing. They pressure washed and added penetrating grease, the leaf springs started squeaking again not 3 days later.
Now at 12,000 miles I took the truck to another Toyota Dealer, they said Toyota Corporate has acknowledged this is an issue on 2016 Tacoma, but they do not yet have a solution. Dealer said there was nothing they could do at this time. They did try to pressure wash the leaf springs again, but the leaf springs were already squeaking again by the time I got home. The Service Manager told me that Toyota Corporate told them specifically NOT to oil or grease the leaf springs as this will attract more dust and dirt, and make the problem worse. It appears Toyota still does not know what the issue is but this is very annoying for a brand new $40,000 truck.

I got my 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road edition June 2016 it now has little over 18k on it and i am now getting this HORRIBLE squeaking noise in the back where my leaf suspension is. I have an appointment for it to go in Thursday Sept. 13th 2017, however reading from complaints on other forms and here I'm not feeling promising that it will go away nor get fixed under warranty. It is so loud to the point when i park my truck everyone in the parking lot looks at me and my brand new truck like"Wow what a POS Toyota is should of got a Dodge, Ford or Chevy". The most disappointing thing is that my Scion Tc i had for 11yrs never had an issue like this, i figured staying within Toyota i would be fine because i never had issues. So hopefully the more complaints that are put in for this they will fix this issue so I'm not driving around in a brand new truck that sounds like it is 11yrs. old!!
