I bought my truck from Carmax on October 31, 2022 and absolutely loved it! I was newly retired but my husband and I are homebodies, therefore I've hardly put any miles on it. But I only washed it in our driveway and dried it the old fashioned way, with a towel. I have never used anything on it that was recommended by the Toyota clear coating that was on it when we got it. Then, we went on a small road trip in it in July of 2023. We were on the second floor of the hotel we were staying at and looked down and I thought our truck was missing because the only truck I could see was the one that the whole top of the cab was oxidizing. That was the first time I noticed anything. Since then, it has just been spreading like crazy. It's now starting to spread on the hood and down the side by the doors.

I took it to a Toyota dealer and he told me that it would cost 3-5,000 to fix it and he advised me to get ahold of Toyota as it looked to him that it was spreading quickly. I haven't gotten ahold of Toyota yet as I've been getting other business matters done that took more priority. I wasn't even going to post this until I had time but decided to just get it done. I will come back when I have more information. I tried to post pictures but I'm not very good with the computer and I downloaded them wrong, spent about 30 minutes trying to fix it and just about gave up. I'll try to post them later also! But as quickly as it's spreading it would be stupid or me to not get the entire truck repainted and I don't think I should have to!

oxidation of paint oxidation of paint oxidation of paint

This occurred quite suddenly. My brother had borrowed my truck and washed it. When I went to wash it about four weeks later, I saw the oxidation on the roof, and a little oxidation on the hood. Next time I was with my brother, I had him look at the roof, and he was shocked, said that the paint was fine when he washed it. I bought Pinnacle clay and lubricant from Autogeeks to try and remove the oxidation, but it had no effect. The paint seems to be damaged below the clear coat. I have seen another Tacoma with the same paint color with terrible oxidation on the hood. It appears to me to be a defect in the paint. I also noted that Toyota discontinued Inferno in 2019, so I wonder if they knew that there is a problem with that color.
