Tacoma SR 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,300 miles

Erratic tapping noise at idle. Increasingly become more noticeable regardless of operating temperature. Suspected failing valve lash adjuster. Took to selling dealer. Engine teardown revealed debris in engine. Lash adjuster/s loose and pounding into socket on head. Multiple parts preplaced including short block with pistons & crankshaft, heads, cams, valves, lash adjusters, cam phasers and solenoids for VVT, oil pump, Vacuum Pump, etc... -

Over $20K worth of repair work under warranty. Demanded buyback with NCDS claim but Toyota stepped up and completed in deadline - sold to another non Toyota dealer same day as pickup disclosing all work done - not my comfort level to keep a $35K vehicle purchased new that had to be bolted back together like this in such low mileage - why Toyota did not just replace the whole engine assembly is beyond me but I'm sure it was cost and timeline of getting parts I'd assume.
