Tacoma Trd Off Road 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission

I have found that on multiple occasions, and since new, the response from the accelerator yields different results. Noticed when starting from a stopped position. I can't tell if the compressor for the A/C is the cause or not. But have noticed a rough idle moment, when the radiator cooling fan comes on, which is comes on/off frequently for short bursts. I've noticed that when sitting and car is running, that fan coming on kind of makes a "dip" in the engine performance. Like it's a brief hesitation and then after fan has started, it goes back to where it was. Like maybe the "hit" of the current draw for the fan is making engine feel like it's going to stall or something - and only for a second or so.

But that may also be happening when at a stop and when attempting to accelerate at the same time. The unexpected acceleration has caught me off guard quite a few times. Attempt to accelerate as normally become accustomed to and boom, I take off like a rocket. Just happened to me yesterday and thought I should share in case others are having the same issue.

It's a safety issue because if someone is in front of you, and you are used to driving the truck, the accelerator operation should be consistent to prevent doing the jackrabbit into someone in front of you. In my car, I was the first at the light, but someone was turning right on red just before I started out and I was approaching them way too fast because of the unusual acceleration issue. Can't say exactly when it is going to happen, can't replicate in on demand, and no firm way to understand what makes it do it. I understand the dealer isn't going to be able to replicate this issue, but the fan issue coming on and making engine hesitate for a second can be replicated but will be told it is just the normal operation. Might be related, not sure.
