So I've noticed on other occasions, but thought it was me, that the blind spot mirror system didn't show an alert for traffic in my blind spot, meaning the system didn't work when it should have.

Just happened again to me last night. I found that it was soon after starting and going from a location where the car was off and I was inside a place. Started up and came out, probably about a mile or so from the location, noticed it wasn't working on the right side mirror. It's happened before, on both, but was never sure why. Noticed last night it was soon after leaving a location, and was about a mile out. Later in the drive, it was working again.

This isn't the first time this has happened, even as soon as having picked up the vehicle when new and was scrambling to find the reason why, but then mysteriously it came on by itself.

I always put up blind spot mirrors for extra. safety, and that has always been a good plan. But this isn't something I should have to worry about. It should be 100% reliable. And you know, one time I rented a 2026 Tacoma SR5 from my servicing dealer and it did the same thing.

Before anyone asks, I was moving forward, and the cars next to me were moving towards me as well. Without changing anything or doing anything, it started detecting cars later. It's like it had a warm up period or something? Just so happens my blind spot mirror on that side had fallen off after this bad rain.

Something else I've noticed about the mirrors, is when the rear defroster is on, and that turns on the mirror heater, they get so darn hot you can burn yourself on them. How do I know? Putting up blind spot mirrors a couple of months ago, turned on the feature so the mirror glass was hot and when I stuck the blind spot mirrors on they would stick better. But they got so hot it literally was very uncomfortable to the touch and I take nerve ending pain blockers, and it felt pretty hot.

Now, last night I didn't have them on, because there was no need, but likely why the mirror came off because previous night when it rained, I had turned them on to get rid of all the rain from the mirror and it likely heated the adhesive and water was able to penetrate the adhesive. An assumption, but a pretty good one because that adhesive is hard to get to come off.

I have a 2020 RAV4 and this never happens with it....it too has blind spot mirrors. So it's not like I don't know how they work or when they work.
