The frame on this Toyota is rusted and needs to be replaced. Not safe driving with a frame that is falling apart. Toyota needs to cover the cost for full frame replacement.

the truck went in for a Ma inspection in October. The inspector did not even start the inspection after a walk around the truck/spotting severe rust damage and holes in the frame. I called Toyota,who are aware of the problem, and all they could say is that they have not reached an outcome on the situation. The local Toyota(lia of Northampton)said that their hands were tied by the corporate headquarters. Toyota inspected the frame in the spring of 2008 and stated that the frame was still structurally sound but would bear watching in the future. Less than 18 months later, the truck has extensive rust and holes in the frame(less than 4000 miles later). The vehicle is in excellent shape except for the frame. Toyota knows that they have a safety problem but I feel that they are waiting for someone to get seriously injured before a solution is put forward. Meanwhile, my Tundra will go to a reputable auto body shop for the necessary repairs to enable the truck to pass inspection. I will have to put a lot of thought into my next manufacturer of a vehicle

Rusted frame that is very bad. Was told I will not pass state inspection next year. Vehicle is in excellent condition accept for frame

What started as some chipped frame paint and minor rust in October of 2007 progressed to full blown front to rear frame cancer in two years. The frame paint flakes off with 1/8 of an inch of rust attached. Washed my frame last week and about three pounds of rust came off including a 6 x 6 x 1/8 inch piece. Poked my finger through the cross member in front of the spare tire with no effort. Most frightening thing is potential failure of rear end mounts, which seems possible. Rust is far too bad to deal with at this point. Seems to have happened at the interface of the frame paint and the frame, perhaps due to failure of whatever primer system they used. Called Toyota, not a problem they say. Had dealer photograph and give it the Tacoma test. Rails are still pretty thick, so it passed, however I am not going to risk my life any longer driving it. I guess I could park it hoping that they relent and give me a refund like they are passing out for the Tacoma's, but who has the money to do that these days? Only 72K miles now and no other major problems. Filed a NHTSA complaint last week.

I spoke to Evalyn McClendon @ Toyota Manufacturing Co. in CA and she said Toyota's policy states that this isn't their problem. They won't help me with this. The dealership said it's not their problem and that I need to take it up with the manufacturer. (typical run around) They could care less. Truck is in Great shape, other than the frame rails being rusted out. (in only 8 years) The truck has NEVER been damaged by flood. Toyota Manufacturing Co. told Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, Pa that because the truck is in the Northeast there was nothing they could do. That being said I guess I need to pack up my life and move!! Now I'm stuck with a great looking truck that is not safe for the road. I purchased this truck brand new in 8/2000. So much for the Weather Package, that's didn't help protect the frame. The dealership's don't tell customers that they DO NOT do undercoating. You find out like I did. TOYOTA DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCTS!!!!! I purchased the extended warranty and even that's not valid now. Waste of money!!! I used to be a big fan of Toyota until they treated me this way!! I'll go to Honda or Nissan and give them my business. STAY AWAY FROM TOYOTA!!!! Very disappointing

When I bought the vehicle, I never looked at the frame of the vehicle. I never realize that the Toyota frame is "Rusted" so bad when the body is so beautiful with minor rust. Until I try to sell it, people ask about the frame & they look & inspect the rusted frame. Nobody wants to buy it.
