Driving city streets check engine light comes on when trying to turn left an truck will not excerlate until throttle is pressed almost to the floor have to pull over to the side stop turn off the engine let set for about 10 seconds start the engine air will respond but the check engine light stays on very dangerous called Toyota an got no help have had it worked on an it will do O.K for a while but back to the same problem bad problem for safety

Driving at 50 mph, engine losses power like fuel is cut off. Check engine light comes on, throttle pedal has no response until 3/4 down. Very dangerous as I was in traffic and could not drive the truck. I was told it is a problem with the accelerator pedal position sensor. Cleared code & happened again 2 days later, this time as I was coming to a stop. Vehicle stalled & would not restart - same code - P1121

Driver #1 was traveling ne and rounding a bend. Another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction was driving in center of road. Driver #1 veered vehicle further ne to avoid a collision. Driver #1 lost traction and vehicle spun out. The front end of driver #1 vehicle hit snow bank and boulder. Vehicle then became stuck in a ditch. Driver #1 attempted to rock vehicle out of ditch without success. Driver #1 then put vehicle into 4-wheel drive and accelerated in reverse. The front wheels obtained traction. The engine accelerator became stuck in the open position which caused the vehicle to thrust backwards across road and down a 23-25 foot embankment. Driver #1 attempted but could not stop vehicle. Vehicle landed in a canyon on some trees and rocks severely damaging the vehicle. Driver #1 was severely injured in accident with hypothermia and a C2 fractured vertebra.

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly acclerated while in reverse. The contact was able to successfully stop the vehicle. The contact then restarted the vehicle three times and depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle did not accelerate. There would not be an increase in the engine rpms unless the vehicle was shifted into reverse. The dealer was notified and stated that there were no recalls addressing the failure. The manufacturer was notified and offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 103,000.

1. driving at highway speeds down a freeway (around 60-70 mph) 2. the vehicle suddenly loses all power and just idles, at this point speed reduces by itself down to about 5-10 mph. Pressing the gas pedal does nothing. At this point, I am forced to the shoulder as to avoid other vehicles. 3. alleviated the problem by changing the accelerator pedal position sensor. This problem should be addressed by Toyota as a possible safety issue.

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. When the vehicle restarted, it began to independently accelerate before stalling a second time. The check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel and shut off immediately after the contact was able to restart the vehicle. The failure persisted intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the contact was informed that the failure was caused by the throttle assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 200,000.

2000 Toyota Tundra. Driving along normally... suddenly the truck would not accelerate.. it went into idle but pressing the gas pedal did nothing.. I was in traffic, crawling along. I put on my flashers, pulled over to the side of road, shut truck off, then checked the accelerator pedal (nothing unusual), checked the oil (fine), checked the trans fluid (fine). When I restarted the truck - it seemed okay - except the check engine light remained on. I drove the truck to the nearest repair garage. They said the check engine code was P1121 and was a throttle position sensor. They also said they wouldn't touch the vehicle due to all the recent problems with Toyota accelerators. This is an unsafe condition. It could easily have resulted in an accident.

Was driving on I-10 in Texas in our 2000 Toyota Tundra truck on 7/9/2005. The rain was on and off. I was driving under the speed limit due to the visibility. The truck suddenly accelerated and went off the road, overturned. My wife was sitting in the back. She was ejected and killed. It was so sudden and I did not know what to think. I thought it could be the slippery condition of the road causing the truck to go faster. Is there any similar report regarding the 2000 Tundra? I just want to get rid of the doubt that's been carried with me for the last almost 5 yrs. The truck had around 28,000 miles when happened. The tires are still new. Thank you for reading this. While merging into interstate traffic in my 2000 Toyota Tundra V-8, I accelerated to passing gear. The accelerator remained fully engaged. I stomped the brakes hard and fortunately the accelerator disengaged. I had no option because of congested traffic and the median was steep. I have owned this Tundra for several years and experienced this fully engaged accelerator once before. I called jpauley Toyota of fort smith ar and was told I could schedule an appointment and if they could recreate this problem they would pay for it otherwise I would be billed for shop time. I am willing to make a sworn statement as to the truth of this statement.

My 2000 Toyota Tundra, V8 engine, automatic transmission, has a problem with the accelerator pedal not working when the engine is running. This usually happens in cold weather (below freezing) several times a year, and the check engine dash lamp comes on. This requires that I stop the truck, turn off the engine, wait approximately 15-20 seconds, then restart the engine. Only then can I continue to drive. This situation has resulted in the following: 1. being stalled in a intersection with a red light and cross traffic coming at me and not being able to move. 2. entering a high speed highway and not being able to accelerate, and having a semi truck almost rear end me. Then having to stop traffic until I could drive off. The Toyota dealer replaced the electronic accelerator mechanism under warranty in 2002, but this did not solve the problem. The dealer said there is no recall for this problem, and they don't know how to fix it. The incidents are recorded on the truck's onboard computer.

It hasn't recurred, and this model wasn't mentioned in the recall.

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra and today, the engine stalled at the first light I stopped at. When I restarted the engine, the truck would not accelerate. It would idle, but there was no response to the gas pedal. Since I was on an incline, I could not go forward so I had to reverse slowly back to a parking lot. When we hooked up the obdii code puller, it came back with a P1121 code. I researched on the internet what this was and found out it has to do with an accelerator pedal position sensor (apps). When I restarted the engine after pulling the code, it appears to be working fine. I do not have a warm and fuzzy feeling about driving the vehicle now. I am glad this occurred at a relatively quiet intersection and not on a busy road or highway or in the middle of nowhere. It seems like this is a pretty common problem on these vehicles and seems to be a potentially dangerous condition you can get yourself into. I am hoping there is a good reason for the sensor in the first place.

Consumer has an aftermarket cruise control(cc) kit manufactured by audivox. Consumer was unaware of model name/number of kit. While driving at approximately 72mph with cruise control engaged, the vehicle began to accelerate without warning. Consumer turned cc off then back on. Problem occurred 15 minutes later. Consumer also advised that on 11/24/02 was driving with cc disengaged. Removed foot from accelerator pedal, but vehicle would not decelerate. Consumer found that the aftermarket speed control unit had caused the problem and had to be disconnected.
