Tundra 4WD 8-cyl

  • 120,000 miles
I purchased the 2000 Toyota Tundra in July of 2010, about a year later on July 4th 2011, the front passenger wheel broke off at the ball joints lodging the wheel under the vehicle, when this happened I was going about 65mph down the interstate. Luckily I was able to safely move the truck to the shoulder without causing an accident. I had the ball joints replaced on the front of both sides to be safe along with a few other parts that were damaged in the accident. About two months after the accident the same thing happens again on the same side. The parts used to fix it the first time were factory Toyota parts. Ive read where numerous other people had the same problem out of they're 2000 Tundra but the recall does not cover this model even though the same parts are used.

2000 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes to express discontent about treatment at a Toyota dealer in regards to repairs the consumer stated the vehicle began making a squeaking noise. The vehicle was inspected and the consumer was informed that the left rear shackle needed to be replaced. When the vehicle was being lifted, the frame broke because it was severely corroded. The consumer then learned that the vehicle had been recalled for frame corrosion. The consumer stated she and her husband were never notified of a recall. The consumer was informed the rear leaf springs, the front lower arms, rear shocks and steering rack needed to be replaced. The consumer believed it was related to the broken frame. But, Toyota refused responsibility of any other repairs.

----- original message ----- to: Bill wise ; Toyota@consumer-follow-up.com sent: Wednesday, February 10, 2010 8:53 am subject: Fw: website inquiry it turns out that I have to replaced another "left front axle, front axle seals, bearings, plus lower ball joint\seals", again, because the bearing and the booth (seals) leaks which makes the bearings to dry out and broke loose and landed right on top of the lower ball joint which causes the damaged to the lower ball joint, too. According to my memory, I had replaced "the whole entire front end "drive axle", and both front lower ball joint in 2006 and they were not installed correctly, so I did took it to your Toyota's shop in order to get it fixed right and. With parts and labors, I've paid you guys almost $2,000, which only last me little over 3 years and then it's start over again. This is the second time, that the "left front driver axle" and it's bearing gave out on me, and luckily, both times, I have noticed the noise and pulled over in to the parking lot in time, other wise, my truck causes the accident and\or some one could have got hurt or kill. This meant, I have to spend another $2,000 more dollars just to have the same thing done to my truck again. I know I can save money by having my friends to help me fix, but I don't want to take that chance because this is the second times the "left driver side (front axle) went out on me and I don't want to be responsible for hurting anyone or might be worst. Please advise. According to bills of service from Toyota dealer shop: C: perform 4-wheel alignment aln had to readjust entire front end (front axle) D: rear axle seals leaking, price repair axle replaced both rear axle seals/bearings. Replaced left front axle bearing.resurfaced

Severe brake vibration. Replaced front brake pads, rotors & calipers (w/ oem parts) around 72K. At 92K truck developed a severe braking vibration both in the front & rear the steering wheel would shake so bad that it was hard to control the truck when braking/stopping. Again I replaced both the front rotors & calipers & had the rear brake pivots cleaned & lubed(at the dealership). Now 10K later I am again starting to experience the same braking problems & vibrations. I should have never had to replace my brake parts after 20K & I definitely should not be experiencing that same problems 10K later.

I am writing on my 2000 Toyota Tundra. I just noticed the recall due to rust found on the rear frame. I also would like to alert you rust found on the front suspension joints. I just replaced my front sway bar links due to rust. The links snapped off and this caused the truck to lean more in the turn or cause more body roll. This I believe is safety issue because if you need to perform and emergency maneuver this could cause the truck to loose control. While I was under the truck repairing the links I did notice a lot of rust in the front suspension that looks like it could fail. The upper control arms have heavy amounts of rust. I did not look at the spare tire bracket as mention in the recall but I have notice the rust in rear section of the frame. The location both shocks have heavy rust at their points of attachment as well as the break line holders. I hope you find this information helpful feel free to contact me with any question.

My 2000 Toyota Tundra SR5 4WD pickup frame is rusting to the point that it soon will rust through near the drivers side rear leaf spring mount point. It only has 112,000 miles and has not been driven in winter for the last three years. I have called Toyota and filed a complaint with them as well, but they are not doing anything about Tundra frame rusting at this time.

(1). I purchased a new 2000 Toyota Tundra extended cab limited at price Toyota in Delaware. In February 2009 I observed rust through of bracket from bed to frame visible through rear wheel well. Requested that my wife report this to Liberty Toyota in NJ during routine 5000 mile oil change. She was told that this was "not a problem". (2). In September 2009 truck was again taken to Liberty Toyota for 5000 mile oil change, purchase of 5 new tires and alignment. Liberty Toyota service told my wife that the truck was rusted to the point where they could no longer align the vehicle and no service was performed. Liberty took photos of the underside of the truck and transmitted them to Toyota. Approximately two weeks later Liberty told my wife that Toyota's position was that because of the age and mileage (9 years and 110,000 miles ) that they would do nothing to resolve this issue. (3). In late September 2009 I purchased a 2006 Toyota Tundra crew cab 4 door Tundra limited as a replacement vehicle for my wife a Toyota runnemead, NJ. On that same occasion the 2000 Tundra was put on lift and inspected with a powerful light. Observed various rust through of brackets and at least one fist sized hole through the frame. This was witnessed by the Toyota runnemeade sales person, general manager, sales manager, and service manager. All agreed that this was worst case of rust they had seen, and were of the opinion that the truck was not safe to operate. (4). In October 2009 I contacted Toyota customer service and received a case number. A few days later I again contacted Toyota customer service and was told that "Toyota is studying the problem". this sounded like a stall tactic and gave me little hope for any voluntary positive action from Toyota. As of today 11 November 2009 I have had no further contact from Toyota. (5). I have purchased or helped purchase 5 Toyota trucks for my family. Total expenditure approximately $150,000.

2000 Toyota Tundra with 120K miles in concord MA. Recently the vehicle was making a noise while turning or hitting a bump. Upon inspection found the frame has corroded so badly the torsion bar is no longer attached to the frame. The rear end leaf spring mounts are also close to the point of failure. Reported this to Toyota an received a case number (case #09102651), was told I would be contacted 3 days ago and have not been contacted yet. Also reported this to my local dealer, they said they should be contacted by Toyota with my case number, as of yet they have not been contacted either. The only repair will be a new undercarriage. This is my only vehicle.

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra and it is rusted to the point where I cannot get a new inspection sticker. This past weekend I was driving and the spare tire was so badly rusted it broke loose from the mount and nearly caused me to crash as it jammed beneath my vehicle. It then bounced back and almost hit the car behind me. This was a very near miss! I have been fighting with Toyota to have them help me with this problem but they are doing nothing. I am hoping that they will do for us what they did for Tacoma owners. Updated 03/25/10 received pictures. Updated 09/15/10

2000 Toyota Tundra SR5 xcab 4X4 has extreme flaking rust all over frame, front bumper to rear. Body metal is fine. Part of frame is buckling/flexing, front right stabilizer mount has snapped off with nothing to weld to. Several weld areas have weakened or let go. Problem became noticeable in 2005 (at 60,000 odometer miles). Slowly got worse. Logged case with Toyota in 2008 when frame began to flex. No program to help. Severely worse in 2009. Updated case with Toyota. Still no offer of help or remedy, just "we are looking into it". no longer able to safely tow, will soon be unable to safely drive. Body looks great, but chassis frame is flaking to nothing.
