Have always babied this truck. In the last two months decided to do some light (yeah...light meaning less than 1600 lbs trailer) towing. Now the transmission is acting up as follows:

a) transmission refuses to add speed beyond 60 mph on a less than 1% grade. Before issue I could easily cruise up the 1% grade at 80 mph or more (not that I did)

b) transmission Shifts up unnecessarily and to no effect. Meaning that it doesn't provide any increased speed or power

In short, I used it for some light towing and now the transmission is broken. Transmission fluid is perfect...pinky red and does not smell burnt nor is there insufficient fluid level.

Why do manufacturers bother designing stuff that doesn't work? I paid over $30 grand for this thing and now with only 125k is doesn't work as advertised...Piece of malaka if you ask me.

My 2003 Tundra started making noise under warranty but it wasn't loud enough to go to a mechanic for. When it became more consistent & louder, I took it to Toyota dealer service. A mechanic who went on a test drive with me didn't know where the noise was coming from. Told me to bring it back when it got worse. I took it to an outside Toyota service and the mechanic told me it sounded like the transmission and told me it would be better if I had "Over drive" turned off. Sure enough it did. He called his friend who is a transmission specialist. He told me Toyota put in V6 transmission into V8 engines. So I went back to Toyota. A different mechanic told me the transmission is too small. Ask me not to tow anything. Isn't that what Toyota has always advertised? How much a Tundra could tow? And isn't that why I bought a V8 truck so I can tow? I contacted AskToyota. They regret I am having problem but not willing to pay for insufficient transmission they put into the V8 engines. My gripe: They advertised that Tundra has the 245 horse power. It turned out they are 3 legged handicapped horses!!!
