This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Toyota dealer.
My secondary air pump went out and I called a dealership about getting the problem fixed and instead of telling me about the 10 yr. extended warranty that Toyota put on the 2006 and up Tundra, they said it would run me about $2500 to fix it. A friend which is a certified mechanic did some research on his mechanic computer and a regular computer and found that Toyota had a 10 yr. extended warranty on the secondary air pump. When I called the dealer back and asked about this I was told that my truck was made in 2005 but yes it was a 2006 so I was not going to get the extended warranty coverage. But yet I was told that yes it was under warranty. And in the same breath it was not because it was made in 2005. My Tundra is a 2006 as I told them and they agreed, but said it wasn't covered. This is 2016 my Tundra is 2006, ten years are not up until the end of 2016. And I only have 136278 mi. which is also under the mileage that is 150000 mi. My truck was made on 9/2005. All that this dealer wants is $2500 or even possible more, who knows. Also this dealer said that there are three pumps which there is only one. That told me they are crooked. After I hung up about 30 min. later some one else called me and I went thru the whole spill again with them. The second person said my 2006 Tundra was made in 2005 and said I bought the truck in 2005 which kill the warranty cause it go's from the date I bought it. I told them that I did NOT buy it in 2005 and I was told that I did because the computer said I did. I could NOT make them believe that I did NOT buy the truck in 2005. So now I am working on trying to get my 2006 Toyoda Tundra fixed under the warranty like the Manufactory said it is covered.

Why is Toyota avoiding ALL Tundra's that have a secondary air injection problem. I found out they extended the warranty down to the 2007 models. Mine went bad a couple of weeks ago. Toyota knows this is a faulty device, so why make all Tundra owners pay out of their pockets. This isn't a trivial problem but a serious emission one. Would hope Toyota will step up to bat for all of use that spend our money for their trucks. Maybe my last Toyota.

I can't understand why Toyota will issue a TSB for 07-10 year models and not include ym's 05 & 06. This is more than just a bad sensor that may cost 200 bucks. $1700 for a pump they know goes bad.

because the air pump is not working correctly, it causes the "engine light" to come on. that is incredibly annoying while driving. the real pain in the rear is my truck will not pass inspection. I'm tired of this BS!! Toyota knows this is a freaking problem. just fix the freakin thing
